Have you had one?

Would you recommend having one?

What could you see?

Were your dates as expected?

I keep talking myself into it and then out of it again!

This is 9+6 with twins. We saw both heartbeats and them wiggling their limbs.

8 week scan ???
ClareB83 · 30/03/2018 14:52

Sorry to answer your questions:

Have you had one?
Had an emergency one at 9+6 because of bleeding.

Would you recommend having one?
Yes although I'd probably go for 9 weeks over 8 as I seem to recall the stats for successful pregnancy if a heartbeat is seen take a jump at 9 weeks. I also recommend it as it's the only scan where both boys were small enough to fit in one shot!

What could you see?
Both babies, sacs, wiggles etc.

Were your dates as expected?
Yes, bang on.

I keep talking myself into it and then out of it again!

Awe how cute clareb83

We had ours at 9 weeks dates measured fine daw the baby blob and heard the heartbeat. Good to know all was measuring at it was supposed to be. If you are in any doubt about your dates I would say leave it a little later than the 8weeks.

EL332 · 01/04/2018 14:42

Thanks @ClareB83 - how exciting! Did you know prior to this scan that you were expecting twins?

@twobambinos I think I am just desperate for the reassurance!

I think I'm going to book one soon 🙂

I had one and was VERY glad i did. Was o my reassuring temporarily though as anything can happen between then and the 12 week scan... but nice to know that there is at least something there :)

Oct18mummy · 01/04/2018 14:54

I had one yesterday they dated me slightly differently only 5 days (I though I was 9+2 but I was 8+4 and I could see the heart flickering away and was relieved to see there was only one 😊 I had one just to put my mind at rest. I paid privately it was £80

ClareB83 · 01/04/2018 16:29

No OP we didn't. We thought we'd miscarried and instead there were two babies! Currently 5 weeks to go until we meet them!

FroodGloriousFrood · 02/04/2018 11:15

Yep, had one at exactly 8 weeks and well worth it. Whilst you should always bear in mind that a good result at 8 weeks doesn't equate to a good result at 12 weeks, miscarriage risk stats do drop once you've seen that heartbeat...I found it hard to believe it was real until I'd seen the image on the screen!

usernotfound0000 · 02/04/2018 11:25

I've just had an early scan today and have been dated as 8+1. I could see a blob (baby apparently!), the yolk sac and a lovely strong heartbeat. I would definitely recommend one, it has made it feel more real.

FancyNewBeesly · 02/04/2018 11:27

the wait to 12 weeks is so hard but I’m quite glad I didn’t now - it was twins, and if I’d known that earlier I’d have been terrified of vanishing twin syndrome etc.

For me I didn’t want to do it because even though it shows you things are okay at that moment, I still would have worried about a loss until 12 weeks

Flamingo84 · 02/04/2018 15:48

I had a scan at 8+4 just to put my mind at rest. The tech was able to see a heartbeat, the yolk sac (which was a good thing at that stage so she said) and she noted that I had a cyst on one of my ovaries. This had gone by my 12 wk scan but was something I was then prepared to discuss.

It’s personal preference really. Obviously things could change after the scan and it’s no guarantee that all will be ok but we thought it was worth it.

Sals27 · 02/04/2018 15:56

I had a private scan at 8 weeks exactly.

We did it for confirmation and reassurance. You could see a vague baby shaped blob but most importantly the heart beat. My dates were bang on which was later confirmed at 12 week scan.

It made it a lot more real for us and I'd do the same again for any future pregnancies I have.

Ekphrasis · 02/04/2018 17:08

I don't want to be a downer but it's worth seeing a different perspective. I had a scan at 8 weeks as I had some spotting and baby measured about 5-6 weeks with a hb. This really threw me and I found the limbo really difficult to deal with. I miscarried a few days later.

I then found it very hard to have an early scan the next time. (Scanxiety.)

However, I only had the scan due to spotting. A scan is a snapshot of that moment; as said above it doesn't predict any later scans or outcomes.

Shmithecat · 02/04/2018 17:11

I had one at 5+4.... couldn't believe I was pregnant and needed to have it confirmed.

Flamingo84 · 02/04/2018 21:38

Meant to attach pic so you can see the type of thing to expect. This was at 8+4.

8 week scan ???
EL332 · 02/04/2018 22:26

Thank you all so much!

I've decided to go for it and have an appointment booked for 14th April 🙂

Google the link between first trimester ultrasound and autism- some studies have suggested that it could impact on brain development of the fetus. I did not know this and had a scan at 8 weeks. Now worrying about it!

Shmithecat · 03/04/2018 07:28

No @Addy, why don't you provide links to peer reviewed studies before spouting such spurious shite?

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 03/04/2018 08:00

I did for various reasons and helped me a lot. Seen a heartbeat and a could make out various bits.

What absolute rubbish. Before you start scaring people with made up bullshit you could cite at least one actual piece of evidence for this. Hint: you won't be able to because there isn't any. Ffs.

EL332 · 03/04/2018 14:25

Having had a quick look at the autism ultra sound links -from the small amount I read it appears that some children with autism did have earlier ultrasounds but that this was probably as a result of some medical concern initiating an early scan rather than an early scan resulting in a higher risk of autism...
