Sweep?

Hello all, I don’t know if this is the right area to post in.

I only found out I was pregnant when I was 32 weeks. Ive not had a single midwife assigned to me because of changes but today I’m 40 + 5 and was booked in for a sweep. However when I got there, the new midwife stated that she couldn’t perform the sweep because I’m not seven days over due? Is this correct? I feel like she was just rushing me through to the next woman as she was behind and gave me an appointment to be induced next Wednesday. I don’t know what to do as I want a sweep but she seemed not to be bothered about doing it and instead booked me for aromatherapy tomorrow?

I’m really confused and any advice would be great, I’d really like not to be induced and the fact she said I can’t have a sweep because I’m not seven days over due has confused me as I’m sure that isn’t right?

Thanks,

Alex

I was booked in for a sweep for just after my due date. My friend got one on her due date. It must depend on the midwife I guess

I had a sweep on my due date, didn't work as my cervix was too high though. Maybe it's less likely to work if it's before 7 days over? Have never heard of that before but maybe it just depends on the midwife. Also never heard of them booking you in for aromatherapy though so think it really most depend on the midwife Smile

I had a sweep at 39 weeks on the agreement of a consultant (midwife emailed to check) as I was booked for induction at 40 weeks. I ended up having 4 or 5 sweeps. Still needed full induction - sweeps don't work for me!

I think it depends on what care is on offer in your area, aromatherapy isn't offered where I am but you can request a sweep from your due date. If it helps, a sweep will only work if you're close to going into labour without it anyway. Good luck!!!

I had one on my due date then another a week later. Neither worked though and I went on to be induced anyway but I know they do work for some!

I had one when I was 39 weeks with the consultants approval as in my area they wont do one till you are 40 weeks. Then I booked myself in with my doctors midwife even though I wasnt under her care for anothforswear when I was 40 weeks. I went into labor the next day but not sure if it was the sweep or just I was due. I am sure the nhs website says u have to be 40 weeks before a midwife will do one. Never heard of it being so many days over due. Try and book another appointment if u can and see if u can see a different midwife

Where I live it's 40 weeks exactly for first time mums, 41 weeks exactly for subsequent pregnancies. A lot of midwives won't stray from the guidelines as it's their pin on the line.
