I'm 39 weeks and due to see my midwife tomorrow.. Will she give me a sweep?

My midwife with dd was horrible and she wanted to give me a sweep at 37 weeks as it was 'convenient' for her whilst she was on holiday. But I didn't let her in, ha! I went into labour naturally with dd at 40+1 weeks. So hoping I will with this one too.

But I'm terrified. They kept trying a sweep in the hospital with dd to burst the waters if I'm correct? (was off my face on gas and Air) and it was horrible!

You absolutely can refuse

You can refuse EVERYTHING. Nobody is allowed to put anything inside you without your consent. SOme medical professionals will take advantage of our natural reluctance to have an argument whilst in labour and will try to bulldoze their own way, but you just put your foot down.

Yes I did. I asked for it, but then come the last midwife appt on my due date, when I was going to have it, I just had a real sense that I shouldn't interfere and let my body and baby decide. It was no problem with the midwife.

I think that too, I still have another two weeks until any intervention needs to happen. I'm fed up of being pregnant but rather he comes on his own

Yes you can refuse. First time I assumed it was normal/not optional.

Second baby my midwife was quite discouraging about a sweep, which suited me.

Yes, you can refuse.

I had a sweep when I was a few days overdue. It did no good, gave me period like cramps and DD was 11 days overdue. I wouldn't have ever had one again.

Yes, refuse.

I did (on a Friday) and dd turned up 2 dats later (Sunday), no need for one really. Let Mother Nature do her thing.

Ofcourse. It's your body. You have every right to refuse hun. Baby will come when ready anyway. Hope it goes fast for you though seeing as you're fed up now. Xx
