Movement?

I'm 24 weeks today and since around 17/18 weeks I've felt my baby a lot. She's been very active and I've been able to see/feel on the outside since just after 20 weeks.
My question is, do patterns change? Do they get into more of a routine later on?
Friday I noticed she wasn't moving as much as usual so I called triage and they weren't concerned as I still felt her just not as hard as usual, they said she's still small and probably just moved. Saturday was the same, and Sunday she was back to full force all day. Yesterday she quietened down again but same with Friday and Saturday she was still moving just not as hard as usual. I had a can of coke and a piece of chocolate and laid on my side and she went mad but then quietened down again later on.
Now I've spent since Friday really obsessing over this, I have the midwife tomorrow so will discuss with her but has anyone else had similar to this? Would you push triage for a check up?

Babies go spend a lot of time In Utero sleeping, a lot of time. Also as they get bigger their movements do become less jerky as they're bigger and have less room, but you should definitely feel movement plenty in the day - cold water and lay down helps from memory as you rarely feel much when moving yourself as you're just busy but concentrating on other things

zaalitje · 27/03/2018 07:21

Triage are very unlikely to see you till about 28 weeks as monitors are ineffective before then.

It sounds like she's moving fine though, if they are facing front you feel them a he'll of a lot more than if they are facing your back, and the position they are in makes a difference too.

Hcps have also said that the pattern should settle after 27_30 weeks, I'm 31+ and it's still not a clear pattern.

HappyGirl86 · 27/03/2018 07:22

I had this is my pregnancy and I would definitely push for a check up. You are encouraged to go to triage if your movements aren't as normal.

0310Star · 27/03/2018 07:24

Thank you ladies. I feel as though I'm going crazy but then I think that's because she's been so obviously moving for around 6 weeks now! She does feel lower down so perhaps that's why?!
I think I've also freaked myself out reading through reduced movement posts on here... and there was me thinking it would get less stressful the further along you are Hmm
Il get my midwife to check heartbeat tomorrow, but are you saying that as long as there is some movement then don't panic?

zaalitje · 27/03/2018 07:47

They say to get a change in movement checked but that there won't be a pattern till about 28/29 weeks so before that some days baby is more noticeable than others so they tend not to be concerned before then.

I was checked by midwife about same stage ad you, triage wouldn't see me as before 28 weeks so monitors aren't effective as baby too small and keeps dropping off them, my bean had moved from bum down to feet down, she could tell from feeling bump and from where doppler picked up heartbeat. So I was just feeling movement differently.

If you have concerns call your midwife, see what she suggests, she might see you a day early or be happy to wait.

SamanthaH92 · 27/03/2018 07:52

Any concerns see your midwife or even just ring the doctors. They were happy to see me and check for heartbeat when i couldn't get hold of the midwife at 19 weeks. I also got given an information sheet when i went for my 20 week scan and that said any change in movment should be checked no matter what stage you are at and where to go and who to speak too. Xx

0310Star · 27/03/2018 08:11

Thanks everyone. I can still feel her plenty, its just different to usual and I think where people say 'reduced movement' I honestly didn't know what that meant so have got myself in a state wondering why she feels different and when I should be concerned.
When I spoke to triage they weren't at all concerned, they said as she was still moving and because I am only 24 weeks they wouldn't be concerned until I was experiencing lack of movement.
I was going to speak to my midwife last night but then I remembered she's on holiday this week (typical!) so I am seeing someone to cover her tomorrow, but they only have midwife in my surgery on a Wednesday. Thankfully its an early appointment!

When they suggest to drink a cold drink and lay on your side, what are you looking out for there? Just any movement at all?

OP posts:
zaalitje · 27/03/2018 08:24

Yup. The cold drinks & lie on your left is just a way to encourage any movement

0310Star · 27/03/2018 08:30

What would you all do if you were in my situation, would you wait until tomorrow morning if she's still moving?

SamanthaH92 · 27/03/2018 08:37

If she is moving that is good. I am 23 weeks today and my babys movememts change all the time. I have not noticed a pattern and sometimes go a few hours with out feeling her. I find the laying on left side doesn't work but if i lay on my right side she moves a lot more. She is often kicking my back i pressume and my bladder. Sometimes it depends how they are layed xx

MadeForThis · 27/03/2018 08:40

If it's making you feel that uneasy then phone again and tell them that you are really concerned.

I got checked for reduced movements with dd1 all was ok and she started moving loads when on the monitor. I apologised for wasting their time and they were brilliant. Said they would always want to check as they never want to take the chance of missing something. I was much further along though.

Speak to the midwives at the hospital. They might not want to scan as if the monitor is unreliable at 24 weeks then it might cause you more concern.

If you are worried then call. It's a horrible feeling to question yourself if you should be doing something. If in doubt phone them. Even just to reassure yourself that you are chasing this.

I'm sure everything will be fine. And congratulations on your pregnancy.

0310Star · 27/03/2018 08:54

Thank you everyone, I will call them I think. I guess I just feel silly after calling them Friday but the lady I spoke to was lovely and said I did the right thing if I am worrying.
It has happened on a one off day before but she was back to normal the next day, where as she's been quiet Friday, Saturday and yesterday (unsure on today yet) but Sunday was having a party in my belly! I just honestly don't know what to think!

So since writing my last post she has moved loads... typical!!! lol

That's good news. Pregnancy is so stressful. We keep waiting for a time when we don't worry but it never happens.

Same after they are born.....

0310Star · 27/03/2018 14:50

She's been moving all day since posting, I've felt more relaxed about it today and I'm sure she does it on purpose to worry me when I stress lol
It's amazing how much you worry! As I said, I thought it got easier the further along you got Hmm

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I have a question and didn't want to start a new thread when its related to this...

Since this thread was started her movement has completely changed. On the odd day she is VERY active still (she even kicked the Doppler off of my belly when I saw the midwife last week, and took my breath away on Saturday with an almighty kick) but most days she is much quieter. I still feel her but I don't feel the outside punches or kicks that I was very often. The midwife I saw was a cover midwife as mine was on holiday, but she reiterated what triage said a few weeks back that at this stage (now 25+2) they aren't concerned about changes as long as you can feel something.

Is it normally for their pattern to change as you progress?
I have text my midwife to ask her but she's not yet replied and I don't really want to call triage just for a general question.

I feel I am turning into a bit of an obsessive wreck over movements! Blush

Bluebirdsky · 05/04/2018 15:27

I am 27+ weeks and my movements definitely change depending on where baby is lying, sometimes I feel them inside or down below but can't see or feel anything on the outside. Other times it's very much on the outside and quite strong kicks where you can really see my stomach move!
Some days when I am very busy I hardly feel her move until I sit down in the evening, other days she seems to be active on and off all day.

LittleFox01 · 05/04/2018 15:36

A bit like @Bluebirdsky my movements change. I'm currently 35+2 with anterior placenta so some movements are cushioned anyway, but I have never had a pattern in movements and he is constantly changing. He has active days and quiet days, sometimes to the point I start to worry then he moves a little and I feel okay. I don't think we will ever stop worrying especially when they are always so concerned and always tell us to monitor their movements. Take a day at a time and make sure you have some time to sit down and relax to feel her move xx

0310Star · 05/04/2018 16:07

Thanks @Bluebirdsky & @LittleFox01 I definitely think that's half the problem, they tell you to be so aware of movements that any little change sends me in to panic! Since speaking to my midwife and triage the other week I am not worrying as much as I was, its just odd she seems to have changed so much! I do also seem to have had a growth spurt frontwards so perhaps that is contributing to a change in sensation lol

From the advice I have been given, I am taking it as not to panic unless I feel next to nothing almost, all the time I am feeling her then try not to worry about it!
