Hi

Could I be cheeky and ask you to check my list of things we've got for our little girl due in 14 weeks.

I've not included the nursery furniture as were getting that later on.
Got the Moses basket etc

Apart from steriliser my mind has just gone completely blank lol we do have more clothes on the list but they're 3 months etc.

Thank you in advance

You've got masses! I wouldn't buy too much more, you need something left for people to give you 😊

If you got a voucher or someone wanted to give you a gift you could get a buggy liner or one of those baby zip up swaddlers, though not all babies love them.

How about you? Do you have pyjamas or a nightie that is soft and easy to feed in? Nice slippers and maybe a dressing gown for night wakings? Lovely but not overly scented hand and body cream for all the times you'll be washing hands, and to rub into your overworked body in the early weeks? Tons and tons and tons of freezer meals? I'd throw your energy and and gift requests into that if I were you. Good luck and congratulations Smile

Foggymist · 26/03/2018 22:31

11 coats?? Is that a typo?? You have loads, dresses and booties not remotely necessary for a newborn, what does the 3 piece bedding set include? We've used about 3 bibs in 4 months with dc2, didn't use any with ds1 until he started drooling from teething, you are incredibly well stocked.

TheImprobableGirl · 26/03/2018 22:35

DO You have a changing bag? A foldable changing mat sometimes comes with one and it’s handy for chucking all the out and about stuff in

I’d probably get another pack of pacifiers

A first toy/snuggle thing?

Nappy sacks, cotton wool pads (sponging around the umbilical cord is easier with these), sheets for Moses baskets/crib (3/4/5) you’ve gone a tad overboard with 12 coats, but at least she’ll be warm!

TheImprobableGirl · 26/03/2018 22:41

Some people like a baby bath/ bath stand thing for newborns, as well as a sea sponge type thing. If you are stockpiling nappies then have you researched formula? Also many hospitals like you to take in the ready made bottles and disposable teats if not breastfeeding.

Hmm- infacol or gripe water? Sudocrem/bepanthen for inevitable nappy rash, you mention bottles so a bottle brush is really helpful for getting in the nooks and crannies

Im assuming car seat is part of the travel system but get isofix base if you need it, and/or sunshade for the window(s) unless tinted

twobambinos · 26/03/2018 22:43

Nail scissors mine needed them straight away.
I found pillowcases good too to use as sheets in the crib much cheaper than sheets and easy to wash.
If you have a spitting baby you will need loads of Muslins and more than 2 blankets.

TheImprobableGirl · 26/03/2018 22:44

HA, I had a spitting baby and we used to use a bath sheet, let alone a Muslin Wink

Winterfellismyhome · 26/03/2018 22:44

Muslins
Sleeping bags

PinkAvocado · 26/03/2018 22:47

Cellular blankets (not sure what is in your bedding set but hopefully not a cot bumper-many places still sell them!)
Maybe a monitor

PinkAvocado · 26/03/2018 22:48

For me, I’d include a wrap to carry the baby but that is very much personal preference.

twobambinos · 26/03/2018 22:48

Breast pads.

happymumof4crazykids · 26/03/2018 23:01

Babygrows?

Knittedfairies · 26/03/2018 23:07

27 bibs? Your list is.... long. I’d be surprised if your newborn got to wear all that before growing out of all those clothes.

Sarah1087 · 27/03/2018 00:03

Thank you girls

Holycrap that's a good idea I've actually thought nothing for myself

This is my first baby and I did get a little excited in the sales on mothercare and next lol and some have also been bought for her, I'm unsure why I wrote 11 coats lol she only has 2 coats 1 being a little summer coat the bibs have been bought by family and friends and some came with outfits.

I think the bedding back does have a bumper but I won't be using that as I've heard some horror stories. X

She will more than likely wear each outfit once before she outgrows it! If you do get given more clothes, you might be able to swap them for a larger size in the shop without a receipt.

I'm not sure what's in your bedding set but I only ever used sleeping bags for DD, never blankets. They are so much easier. Although I think there's a minimum weight so you might need blankets to start if baby is a bit smaller.

Definitely some more muslins. Useful for all sorts.

Also stuff for you - breast pads, massive pants and maternity pads come to mind.

olicat · 27/03/2018 08:42

I would say don't bother with scratch mitts and booties - most sleepsuits have built in scratch mitts now and obviously they have feet - far less chance of them being flung off!

Fidgety31 · 27/03/2018 09:40

Vests to wear under sleepsuits and clothes - keeps the nappy in place

Muslin squares are readily handy

More dummies - if u need to use them two won’t be enough as they get dropped etc and have to be sterilised

Not too many newborn nappies
My babies were all born too big for them - I never know what size u baby will be

hotchocolate86 · 27/03/2018 10:10

Sleeping bags. Grobag do tiny ones for the first few months. Slumbersac might do some too.

Lots of Muslin squares.

The tiny ready filled bottles of milk to take into hospital.

TakeMeToTheFresh · 27/03/2018 10:19

Honestly OP, do NOT go out and buy a load of muslins Shock

I bought loads because MN always said things like "if you think you have enough, buy some more!"

I bought loads and have only ever used 2 Grin

If you don't have a sicky baby, they're not actually in demand for use that much at all.

I love the ones I do have, they're by Anais and Aden (I think they're called). Quite pricey but TK Maxx usually have them in. They're huge, so can be used for loads - Swaddling, putting baby down on a surface (useful for you since you have a Summer baby), snuggle blanket, etc etc, as well as the generic sick catcher if you happen to have a sicky baby.

Also don't buy any side cribs or what have you until you get a feel for how you're going to sleep with baby. I spent a huge amount on things and ended up Co Sleeping, even in hospital. It's great.

KalaLaka · 27/03/2018 11:08

Moses basket sheets x5 (you may have lots of spit up) and mattress protector. Same for cot.

Several cellular blankets.
Sleeping bags for when baby reaches the right weight for them.

Barrier cream (I use zinc and castor oil from boots) for nappy changes.
Nappy rash cream in case.

If breastfeeding:
La leche league book (invaluable, in my opinion): the womanly art of breastfeeding. Read while pregnant. Use to troubleshoot after baby arrives.
Breast pads (cheapest boots ones).
Heat/cool gel pads (amazing for inevitable engorgement).
Haakaa breast pump (amazon).
Lansinoh nipple cream (use after every feed).
Breast shells (to air sore nipples and stop clothes rubbing).
Breast shields (you may need these for a break if you get sore).
BISCUITS.
Easy to drink with one hand cartons/bottles. You get very thirsty.
4 bras.
Tops you can lift to feed. Vests to pull down underneath to keep tummy covered.

Almostthere15 · 27/03/2018 11:10

I think you need cotton wool. Particularly for the hospital.

That doesn't look like too much clothes to me. Specially if you have a sicky baby and don't want to wash endlessly. On that note I'd get another towel and perhaps some wash cloths.

If you're planning to feed you might want a breastfeeding pillow, breast pads, and nipple balm.

CheesecakeAddict · 27/03/2018 11:18

I definitely agree with fresh on the muslins. We have 6 and it's plenty. We keep one in the changing bag, and one where I feed. This is also a baby with reflux so very sicky.

You seriously have plenty. We had 8 babygrows and vests at newborn age and most of her clothes were then up to 3 months. We literally got about 2 wears out of the up to 1 month size of each babygrow before she outgrew them. I would buy more towels - my dd pooed on her towel every time I took her out of the bath for like 6 weeks. We now have about 4 and that just covers us. I would also get more tights in case of leaks. Other things we got were:

Infacol (Good for colic but you can't us3 it for the first month. Gripe water even longer).
Outdoor hat and gloves
Pram suit to keep legs warm
Sling (read up on the 4th trimester)
Formula (I breastfeed but useful for emergencies in the first few weeks whilst you are still learning).
Breast pads
Nipple cream if breastfeeding
Formula holders if bottle feeding
Milton cubes so you can sterilise in a pan when visiting family
Descaling sachets for steriliser
Breast pump if breastfeeding (useful for increasing supply in the early days).
Lots of blankets. We have 2 cellular blankets in the crib, 1 in the pram and spares
Grow egg to keep track of room temperature
Themometer (saves you rushing out when they get sick)
Nail clippers
Bottles and bottle brush
Barrier cream
Cotton wool (better than wipes for the first few weeks)
Bottle warmer
Changing mat
Baby shampoo (baby bubble bath also helps my dd sleep).

PinkAvocado · 27/03/2018 11:38

I never really used muslins either.

For you: big pants and maternity pads. The chunkier the more comfortable for the pads although I just used tena lady ones! Also I liked having a nice big t shirt to labour in.

2018baby3 · 27/03/2018 12:33

Hi, this is my first post on here, I'm 39 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and just looking for advice/support really from other mums experiencing same, I have had anxiety/low points on and off during this pregnancy, in the last week or 2 it's coming back I've noticed but also coincides with family disagreements/interfering etc on/off during whole 9 months. On one occasion my family and my husbands family started a childish spat together at my son's 3rd birthday party 3 weeks ago which was nothing to do with me but I was obviously dragged into as was the one in the middle. Other occasions have generally been resentment/jealousy from siblings (i was just before xmas called a pregnant a@#hole by one sibling for absolutely no reason when discussing that I'd had a bad day) and very interfering in-laws.
Anyway it's all really got me down now and really put a dampner on my whole pregnancy but how can I tell if this is my hormones reacting and i need help or do I need to get tougher with my family?? It's making me feel very alone and anxious and I'm left feeling like I don't want any of our family near me when I have baby and after.

Fidgety31 · 27/03/2018 12:39

You can use white vinegar to de scale a steriliser if you don’t want to use chemicals.
There’s loads of breastfeeding books etc you can buy but you may be lucky - my last son would’ve latched on to anything and had no issues at all.
It seems to be pot luck.

I used wipes from birth - didn’t bother with cotton wool and water - it doesn’t get the poo off properly

Stock up on washing powder - non bio - you’ll need plenty
And nappy bags - such small babies can produce the most recolting smells 😂
