Pain in hip, bum, shoulder when having to sleep on side

Basically all the pressure points and nearby joints hurt at night (bum cheek, hip, sholder, collar bone), waking up almost hourly from about 1am to turn over as im in pain on which ever side im sleeping. Im 23 weeks and do also have PGP which obviously contributes. I wish i could sleep on my back!

Anyone else have this and found a solution?

I do the pillow between the legs. Maybe my mattress is too hard (husband likes it that way!).

I have a feeling this will only get worse and im only 23 weeks! Dont remember this last pregnancy... But we have a harder matress now. Considering the nice soft sofa for sleeping?

Bigger pillow under your head might stop the shoulder and collar bone pain? Can't help otherwise, I try to sleep on my left now I'm closer to due date but I really want to sleep on my stomach. I can sort of achieve this if I lay at an angle, using a body pillow to prop me up at the front.

You need a softer mattress. Side sleeping on a firm mattress with PGP... just no!!
How about getting a mattress topper to make it softer? Maybe you could get a single one for your side of the bed only?

I’ve had PGP and it only gets worse I’m afraid. Are you doing physio, pregnancy yoga or pilates, etc? I also saw an osteopath which did me a lot of good.

Foam mattress topper?
More pillows?
New husband? Wink

I put a duvet folded up on my side of the bed under the sheet, which has made a difference for me. And I highly recommend physio & pilates-it made my SI dysfunction & sciatica SO much better.

I had to sleep propped up from 20 weeks with hip pain. 8 pillows making a slope.

Thanks ladies xxx well i have bought a single mattress topper from argos for my side of the bed (a nice thick soft one... hopefully) im going to get all the pillows in the house to prop me up x see how it goes. Will be nice to have more than 2 hours sleep in a row (maybe its natures way of preparing me for a new born ha).

If all fails... New husband, new super soft mattress ;)

Going to need a hip replacement after this pregnancy

I remember it well. When we went on holiday when I was 25weeks pregnant I took my mattress topper with me! (Benefit if having a big van) Think we even had a double one and I ended up folding it over to double it up on my side and had a little cliff between us. My mum had a big lazy boy type leather recliner chair. If we'd had somewhere to put it I would have pinched it off her as I meant I could sleep basically upright just reclined slightly which was so much more comfortable.

“If all fails... New husband, new super soft mattress” Grin

If it’s any consolation my PGP did ease almost immediately after giving birth.

Just make sure that PGP is in your notes and your birth plan, you should avoid labouring on your back if possible (on side or all fours is better) and you also need to check how wide you can open your knees without pain, make sure that’s in your notes and your midwife and any other HCPs are aware.
