Pumping breast milk

Is it realistic or not to plan on pumping milk twice a day at set times (times obviously to be decided once baby is in a bit of a routine)?

I pumped all of my baby’s milk. Anything is possible. :)

How old is your baby?
I have a 12 week old DS and in my experience (FTM so may not be relevant/same as others) I’ve struggled to find time even once a day to pump.
However he is a hungry baby and likes to be fed often which limits to when I can pump as like to allow enough time for milk to build up again to feed him (I Have oversupply so he’s used to a high flow and lots of milk per feed!)
I’ve found having a medela electric much more efficient than a manual to allow me to pump quickly in between feeds.
Could you try doing one sheduled session a day for a week and see how you go?

Definitely possible!

Always 5am for me! Goodness knows why ConfusedGrin

Hi, baby isn't born yet. I'm thinking practically about DH being able to take bubs out to give me a break like he did with our first DS.
(Ds1 had 50/50 breast / formula bottles so DH would take formula then but I want to try 100% breast this time if I can.
I didn't express at all with my first DS so wasn't sure if it was possible to plan in pumping sessions!)

I pumped and froze on little packages, I think the more you pump the more your body expects you need it. I do agree though it was difficult to find the time and I didn’t bother for our second child, I found I had enough to do with 2 children, but good luck.

I'm sure it's perfectly possible but I can never be arsed. I sometimes pump about an hour after DS goes down for his long stretch of sleep in the evening.

Ilovemalteaserbunnies · 25/03/2018 22:14

I think it would be possible if you really wanted to, but quite restrictive to you to have to make the time and also be at home at set times (that's what I found anyway). With 2 I find the day goes in a whirlwind and I'm not sure I could've expressed like I did for my first.

I pumped once or twice a day to freeze and it was fine - the best results I had were with baby on one boob and pump on the other!

I only have one child though so who knows if I could be arsed with the faff second time around.

I pumped once a day at 5am and usually produced about 6-7oz. I was doing an evening class at college twice a week so I needed it. Sadly DD never took a drop! Cue me feeding her to the minute I left and then the minute I got back in!!

I successfully pumped for my twins for the first 15 months. Totally doable!

These things are great if you are a leaky boober, www.boots.com/philips-avent-comfort-breast-shell-set-10001618 (any brand, they all seem the same). You wear it in your bra while feeding from the other boob and it collects the excess. No work or extra time required. I could get 2-3 oz a session doing that in the early days, although I had oversupply.
