Viability scan and no heartbeat

Just been for a viability scan, I thought I was 7 weeks but they dated me at 5 weeks and 4 days so no heartbeat. Been referred to EPU.
Am feeling really down.
Has anyone experienced this with a positive outcome?

I've seen a lot of ladies post a similar message to this. I went for an early scan due to bleeding at what I thought was 6.5 weeks and there was no heartbeat yet, but a week later there was. I had my dates a little wrong and the scan was just too early. They did say to me at that first scan that everything was in the right place and we just wait and see what develops. Of course, there are less positive stories, but that's what happened for me x

I see this message a lot on here. Really, I think they should only offer scans at eight weeks and above, because the amount of unnecessary worry early scans cause is ridiculous. The majority are fine after a couple of weeks spent in horrendous anxiety. Fingers crossed for you x

I had this with DD1 because I was getting stomach pains and they feared an ectopic.
No HB but at 12 week scan all was fine. Xx

@Addy2 I agree. Private scans for reassurance at 7 weeks are a bit pointless as the risk of miscarriage is still high before 12 weeks, only really dropping significantly at 8. I had a scan at 6+4 but only because my doc was worried about ectopic pregnancy. It hasn't made me feel any better. If anything I am more anxious an wish I didn't need to have the scan!

It's far too early to tell. You will have some women telling you that they have continued on to have a normal pregnancy. Some will tell you it all ended in miscarriage. All you can do is look after yourself, rest, and wait it out. It is so so hard, and really heartbreaking to think that something might go wrong. Sadly however you are not likely to get the answers you want from mn. Wishing you all the best.

Flowers op the waiting is really tough.

I had a scan this week when I should have been 6 plus weeks but am measuring behind too.

This is my second pregnancy and I just feel a lot less pregnant this time and so am expecting it not to work out.

I’ve read countless stories with positive outcomes though so I hope you are one of them.

An early scan only causes more stress (trust me I am in that position right now) hold off as long as you can!

Pinkvoid · 26/03/2018 12:16

I had two early scans in my last pregnancy that showed a strong heartbeat and I still miscarried so I don’t think early scans are remotely worthwhile. It is very easy to be behind on dates especially if your cycles are irregular, I hope you get good news.

SleepFreeZone · 26/03/2018 12:24

It really does depend on whether you were tracking your cycles/ovulation or whether you have found yourself unexpectedly pregnant without really knowing when you might have conceived.

In my case I tend to know exactly what’s what with my cycles/ovulation so if my scan said I was 5 weeks when I should have been measuring 7 I’m going to say it’s not a viable pregnancy. However if you’re really not sure about dates then you have every chance for good news at your next scan.
