Anti D vaccine

I have to get the anti D vaccine at 28 weeks and have heard it's awful. I now cannot sleep because I am so scared of getting it. Is it really awful?

@Lj8893 ah, worth a try anyway! Thanks! Yes I'm definitely chuffed I've been offered the test as it avoids any unnecessary injections. I guess I should be fortunate that my NHS Trust offers them, I thought it was standard across the country that's sad it's not.

Lj8893 · 24/03/2018 22:26

It's still a relatively new test, so some trusts are still catching up.

It’s a painful jab.. but nothing like childbirth!

Wolfiefan · 24/03/2018 22:34

Painful? Not really. I didn't find it any worse than any other vaccination.
Oly you're taking to a pregnant woman who's already anxious. Not a helpful comment.

LadyPug · 24/03/2018 22:40

I’m majorly needle phobic and didn’t find it painful at all. It’s awful to look at so don’t look (it looks worse than it is!) but both times I had it at the same as the whooping cough vaccine and that hurt more!

pastabest · 24/03/2018 22:41

I've had it about 8 times across two pregnancies.

It's not the easiest of jabs because it goes quite deep into the muscle and what is injected is quite thick so you feel it going in.

BUT....

It hurts less than stubbing your toe, banging your funny bone, standing on a plug or getting cramp in your foot. If you have survived any of those things then you will survive this jab.

Thank you everyone who took time to reply I'm only 19 weeks and think they said 28 I will be getting it. Not sure if anyone's following it but I will post an update when I get it anyway. After reading everyone's experiences I feel like I can handle this and if I can't then how will o deliver a baby lol.

Course you can handle it! You've had bloods taken and you managed that, right? Just close your eyes and think of kittens/Tom Hardy/summer holidays Smile

TTCI · 29/03/2018 20:47

@AmethystRaven that's so sweet thank you x this is what we are made for after all x

I had it and it was no worse than any other the other pregnancy jabs you have.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 29/03/2018 22:56

Honestly - it's really not that bad. And I'm a huge wimp!

I found it painful in the thigh but barely noticed it in the upper arm. Had my final one yesterday as this baby popped out rhesus positive and requested upper arm again - easy!

Ask your healthcare provider where they recommend.

You'll be FINE.
