Just found out I have been exposed to this peculiar virus. My son has just come out with the rash and there is an epidemic of it in his school. I am almost 17 weeks pregnant and very worried I will have complications. Does anyone have any advice or experience with it? I didn't have the virus as a child. Thank you in advance xx

You need to tell your doctor, and ask to be tested for it. There can be complications, although I’m not sure when the most tricky time to be exposed to it is - maybe first trimester.

If you call your midwife they can arrange for the bloods you had taken at booking to be tested for immunity. Most people have had it as a child but the symptoms are so mild they didn’t notice. If your booking bloods show you aren’t immune they will take a second blood sample to check if you’ve been exposed recently. Try not to worry as complications etc... are very rare and it’s likely you’ll have immunity, but do call your midwife and have it checked

I was exposed to it last week at work (teacher) at 35 weeks pregnant. You need a blood test but most women are immune. The blood test will tell you for definite and put your mind at ease

It's not an issue to be exposed after about 20-22 weeks but do call your dr to check immunity. If you're immune it's all fine, if not they'll test again in a month to see if you were exposed. Even if you were it's not a given baby would be affected but you'd be monitored with extra scans. Iirc exposure in first trimester is worse.

I was exposed to it through work but I was beyond 20 weeks. Give your GP a call, mine said that if I’d had it as a child then I would have immunity to it.
