What to put baby in during day to sleep?

We plan to have a cot in our bedroom for the night. However, we have a 3 storey house so I don't fancy the idea of going up and down the stairs all day to put baby in cot when they need to sleep. What is best to use for the living room? We had a moses basket for dd1 but it took up too much room and she never liked sleeping in it anyway

Do you have a pram with bassinet? We had the uppababy so used the bassinet from that for day time sleeping.

Sleepyhead downstairs?

demirose87 · 22/03/2018 14:54

Moses basket or baby chair that lies right back.

Lauren83 · 22/03/2018 14:56

Ours is 3 storey too, he has a next to me crib in our room, a cot on middle floor in his nursery that he hasn't used yet and for downstairs we got a Moses that he never uses and a mamaroo, he always sleeps in the mamaroo it's a godsend

IHateYourCarpet · 22/03/2018 15:02

DS always slept in his bassinet.

To be honest though, in the early days, I napped when he napped. So he pretty much only slept in his next to me cot. It didn't matter what we had downstairs as much.

I'm lazy and live in a flat and I still had a Moses in the front room Grin did take a lot of room up though and ended up getting rid of it and using a bouncy chair/swing.

Do the babybox university course and get a babybox for downstairs?

misshannah · 22/03/2018 15:43

baby box for the first few months?

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 22/03/2018 15:45

We have a travel cot which has a changer over it and a pocket on the side for nappies, wipes etc. It is unbelievably convenient!

WeeCheekyBird · 22/03/2018 15:45

I used the moses basket on a table (it was secure, she couldn't roll etc and was right next to me) early days then let her nap on her bouncer.

Also on a blanket bed on the floor (again, supervised). Mine would sleep anywhere though.

Oysterbabe · 22/03/2018 15:50

I always just used a sleepyhead. Baby is supposed to stay in the same room as you to sleep until 6 months anyway.

happymummy12345 · 22/03/2018 15:53

Our ds only ever slept in his crib upstairs. Personally I don't see the need for them to be in the same room during the day, as long as you have a monitor on and check on them regularly I don't see the harm at all. It's not like I'm asleep and he was up there on his own. (I hate Moses baskets so would never have one). Occasionally he would sleep in the carrycot of the Pram as well.

boomboom1234 · 22/03/2018 16:05

I have the uppababy pram so use the bassinet from that on a Moses basket downstairs. Also means baby is safe away from my toddler.

Sleepyhead is fantastic as you can carry it round and put on sofa etc although no good if you have a toddler around as they would be able to reach the baby too easily.

I also have a baby Bjorn bouncer chair thing and she loves napping in that.

I recon you need one option on each floor.

boomboom1234 · 22/03/2018 16:06

That should say Moses basket stand

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 22/03/2018 16:17

I don't see the need for them to be in the same room during the day, as long as you have a monitor on and check on them regularly I don't see the harm at all.

This misses the point of the SIDS advice which is based on the research that suggests that the baby regulates its breathing by hearing you breathe.

Oysterbabe · 22/03/2018 16:22

Yeah the guidelines exist because they reduce the risk of cotdeath, not to pointlessly make our lives more difficult.

LucyLou19 · 22/03/2018 16:37

@happymummy12345 you don't see the need for them to be in the same room as you to sleep? A newborn baby, are you crazy? I would feel absolutely lost without been able to constantly check on my baby not to mention the high risk of sids!

BelfastSmile · 22/03/2018 18:11

We sometimes used the pram, which folded out completely flat. We had a Moses basket for DC1, but he hated it, so DC2 just has pram and cot.

NapQueen · 22/03/2018 18:14

We had a Tiny Love 3 in 1 Napper for dc2. Was amazing. Lasted til 8mo and is very versatile.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 24/03/2018 14:14

When dd's hv came round she said we were the only family to put the baby in a lie flat pram during the day. She said other parents used car seats, bouncers and bean bags. I didnt quite believe her to be honest.

Pumpkin2018 · 24/03/2018 15:55

We just used the bassinet cot from the pram for the first few months. Very convenient for moving around the house while baby was asleep. It also meant we could go out for a walk without waking her too.
