For background, I'm 6 months pregnant, size 16, with a fair old bump on me but skinny legs. I've got a couple of meetings and a social event today, so I'm wearing my nice jersey maternity dress. It's cold, so tights.
I put on a non-maternity pair first, sitting over my hips but under my bump, and by the time I'd got downstairs they were rolling down. Swapped them for a maternity pair. Left to walk Kid1 the 5mins to school and by the time I got there, the tights were sinking. By the time I made it back home I'd had to stop for a sneaky undignified tights-hoick, and they were STILL dragging my pants right off my bum and the crotch of my tights was hovering dangerously close to my knees & the hem of my dress.
Does anyone out there wants to share in my pain, snigger at my waddling, or offer solutions if they exist?

Oh sweetie I feel for you. I actually got some tights from simply be and I will be heartbroken when they ladder. They are the most comfortable tights ever. I hated maternity tights because they were always sitting across my bump. These one. Ate brilliant (I could probably tuck them into my bra though)

louella99 · 22/03/2018 09:54

Another pair of pants over the top, to keep the crotch up?

AuntyDiluvian · 22/03/2018 10:35

ooh, two very good ideas there! Thank you. I'll try the outer-pants trick today. Rosie, are the simplybe tights non-maternity?
In my desperation I have just bought some black elastic to try sewing round the top of the maternity tights so they can cling above the bump. If this works I will have to turn it into a business and make my millions.

I can’t make tights work when pregnant, I’ve tried extra large normal tights, mat tights. I’ve resorted to wearing seraphine leggings with black socks under. Works, but not ideal perhaps.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 22/03/2018 10:39

I wear a bump band over my over the bump tights to keep them up

ProseccoPoppy · 22/03/2018 10:42

Before mat leave I used the cantiloop bump band over maternity tights to hold them up (bump is HUGE). So annoying when tights sit halfway up bump!!

ProseccoPoppy · 22/03/2018 10:43

Or ASOS had some tights that had silicone strips so they kind of stick to your bump. I, sadly, had a reaction to the silicone and ended up with itchy red lines right around my bump, but one of my friends swore by them.

RosieCotton · 22/03/2018 10:49

No they aren't maternity tights. I love them though. I had tried h&m maternity one but found them slipping down all the time. Xx

Honey456 · 22/03/2018 10:54

Oh my gosh I have the same problem at work! I got some M & S maternity tights (like £5 a pair!) and they were okay staying up if you don’t mind ‘over the bump’ but I find any over the bump clothing restrictive and it ends up hurting after half an hour.

So I gave up and bought Boots large and have to just wear them awkwardly low! Annoying when walking anywhere!

renegadebehaviour · 22/03/2018 10:57

I loved these for keeping tights up:

and kind of still need to wear them even without a baby in there

katmarie · 22/03/2018 11:06

Have you considered hold ups instead? No need for the over/under bump dilemma then

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2018 11:09

I am a big fan of the double pant option. Never fails

AuntyDiluvian · 23/03/2018 07:07

Ah there are so many potential ways forward here. I have never tried bump bands or double pants and will do some experimenting. Fingers (hopefully not legs) crossed.

I've second the double pants and tights, but then I have always double panted with tights owing to really long legs that are quite skinny! I also recommend, for colder days, maternity leggings teamed with same colour socks and shoes that hide the sock /leggings seam. Either works, but I do find leggings more comfortable.

I hear you! I tried every variation of tights (maternity and normal) and in the end asked for help on here - Boots maternity tights came out as the best bet. I picked some up and haven’t looked back - they’re the best by miles and come up right under the bra (sexy!) without sliding down.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 23/03/2018 17:09

I'm having the same issue. I'm tall anyway and finding ones that don't either double as a bodystocking or fall down within 5 steps is proving a nightmare.

Will try Boots tomorrow.

AuntyDiluvian · 25/03/2018 21:21

Might try Boots as well. Double pants were fairly unsuccessful today and thanks Maya, but I think I'd find cold legs more disturbing and harmful to me at the mo than tights! I don't have much social life left to pay for my baby these days...

I lived in h&m maternity tights, two for £8.99! They were an absolute dream and came above the bump. To be honest I think I'll still wear them when I'm not pregnant 😂😂

Celticlassie · 26/03/2018 00:24

Maternity tights worked best for me with skirts so I could tuck them into the waistband. I also vaguely remember tucking them into my bra! (Short arse)
It was the one benefit of having to pee every 29 seconds - gave you the chance to hoik up the crotch.

SprinkleSomeSparkles · 26/03/2018 08:49

Do not do the pants on top Job...mine started their decent as I was walking Blush for me literally getting the next size up has been working so far.

Jfw82 · 26/03/2018 15:36

I used the seraphine maternity tights last time which I was wearing at work right up to finishing for mat leave- expensive but worth the money- they do come all the way up to the bra, that was fine as last time I was due in December..... am due end of August this time so hoping that in a few weeks will be able to dispense with tights completely.

Smellyjo · 26/03/2018 17:00

Compression tights from pebble are really good - pricey at around £20 but did all through my last pregnancy and gave them to a friend who never returned them! They are so firm and supportive and hard to get on - so hard to roll down too.
