Hi, I have just found out I’m pregnant with baby no.2 šŸ˜ my little boy will be 4 in may and will be 4.5 when baby is born. I am worrying the age gap is too big. Has anyone else got this big of a age gap?

15 and 11 year old. Don't get on at all and very rarely have.
I found it a tricky age gap, whereas the youngest would want to do something like soft play, the oldest had grown out of it.
It was great having one starting school and being able to spend the time with the little one though.

I'm hoping they will become closer as they grow older.

That’s the age gap between me and my sister. I’m now 33 and she’s 37 but we’ve always been exceptionally close. I think it’s not the age gap as much as just how well the children get on.

I think you have to remember that 4.5-5 yrs is a very common age gap in three-child families, at which nobody ever turns a hair. I used this to my advantage when I got a few comments from DH's family about our 4y10m gap when I was pregnant with DC2 - I would say, 'yes, isn't it a coincidence? It's exactly the same gap as between SIL's DC1 and DC3!'. Nobody had ever considered it in that way, but I don't really understand why. Having a middle child doesn't address the problem of the older child having outgrown soft play whilst the youngest still wants to go.

You can't guarantee that your children will be close.

Same gap as between me and my sister... found her a bit of a pain when we were younger but when she was 17 and could come to the pub with me, we were great mates! She's almost like the older sister, always looking out for me Smile

Going to be similar here
My LB will be 4 in June and I'm due in Oct.

I was a bit sad it's taken is so long ttc again, but this way I can take some AL before mat leave and be able to take LB to school.
Then have good 1:1 time with baby once they arrive.
I'm a bit nervous about the logistics of it all, but sure we will figure it out
