Hi Bradders
I have some experience of this, my daughter was breech at 38+3, I had her turned via an ECV, and then she was an unstable lie until my labour actually got going.
Firstly, if you suspect you’re in labour you should call your midwife or labour ward and go in for a quick scan, as with an unstable lie there’s a small chance of cord prolapse and they may want to check what position the baby is in.
I’m not sure if it’s perhaps too late or not appropriate in your particular circumstances, but have you been offered an ECV to try and turn the baby? They are done very safely with constant scanning and monitoring of baby’s position, so if you’re keep to try for a vaginal delivery it could be worth a shot if it’s offered to you? Success rate is 50%, so not fantastic odds but it can work!
With a breech vaginal delivery, if you’d like to try it then discuss all the options with your midwife. Ask if there are any midwives at your local hospital who have experience of breech birth, and see if you can be scanned to check if baby’s in a safe position for breech delivery. The more informed you are, the better!
Good luck! Let us know how you get on
