I'm only 9 weeks and he's already told his boss is which is fine. Today he had to get his assistant to change some travel plans so told her why. I'm livid. I know people who work there and friends know people who work there. If she blabs then it could get out. I want it kept quiet until I'm at least 16 weeks and then my children will be the first to know.

AIBU?

Surely if she required a reason he could have made something up. I'd have been wary about telling people who don't need to know yet. It felt weird to me to have to tell the person running my exercise class before I told my parents.

Oh and congratulations of course!

I'm an assistant and my boss told me when his wife was in very early pregnancy. The people I work for are incredibly busy and I basically manage their whole lives (there's no such thing as 9-5 where I work-they're always on duty) so me knowing meant I could actively try and manage his time so that he could be at home more/available to attend medical appointments etc. Obviously I don't know your partners work situation but I understand it being on the other side! If his assistant is any good she will keep it confidential.

Sushirolls · 20/03/2018 19:03

I thought if work related, they're required to keep it confidential? X

zippey · 20/03/2018 19:06

Do you socialise with people from his work? If not then its not a bad thing. It’s just a bunch of random people. It will still be special when you tell people close to you.

ReinettePompadour · 20/03/2018 19:09

I would expect it to be kept confidential. Has your DH told them it is confidential and theyre not to disclose this? If not he needs to say so.

On another note I previously worked for a company that required 30 weeks notice for maternity leave to be put in place. Its not that unusual to need to tell employers for operational reasons.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/03/2018 19:52

He told her because of a work related matter, surely you understand the difference between that and him gossiping.

myrtleWilson · 20/03/2018 19:58

I would have assumed he told her partly because of travel plans but also in case he needs to be more flexible in the weeks before you go "public" - I would also assume that it would be confidential information and she'd be in trouble for disclosing. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thanks all, I'll try to calm down a bit!
