Healthy pregnancy with PCOS and no medication?

Hi girls,

Around a year ago I got diagnosed with PCOS when I had some of the symptoms such as hair loss, facial hair growth etc. However I’ve always had pretty normal periods.

I’m currently 5w pregnant and to my completely surprise conceived on the first cycle ttc!

I’ve heard so much about pregnancies with PCOS going wrong and having miscarriage and how much of a higher risk it is, I did go t the doctors last week and mentioned this however my doctor didn’t seem overly concerned and said plenty of PCOS pregnancies are successful. But I see so many women with PCOS on forums that their doctor gives them things to help them maintain a healthy pregnancy and try to progeny miscarriage.

So my question is, has anyone had a healthy pregnancy whilst having PCOS and no meds for it? Or is anyone currently in the same boat as me?

Any input at all would be much appreciated, it’s really concerning me , feel like I’m just waiting for something bad to happen due to my PCOS :-( thanks girls x

Currently 37w with pcos (conceived taking clomid ) and only medicine I’ve taken throughout the pregnancy has been pregnancare. My doctor told me that pcos problem is conceiving once conceived you’ve got as many chances as any other pregnancy. Many times pcos is related with high bmi(mine was nearly 30 when got pregnant ) so medicines are given cuz of bmi but not pcos.

Congrats and hope everything goes ok!

I struggled to conceive due to pcos and endometriosis, I had ovarian drilling and laser treatment prior to conceiving. I went on to have a perfect pregnancy, no medication and not even a suggestion of it from my consultant (I had been given metformin whilst ttc but I found I didn't really get on with it so stopped taking it). There was also no mention whatsoever of higher risk associated, however, like you I did read about it. I've spoken to a few friends now who have had babies after pcos, from what I've gathered it only seems to have affected conception rather than pregnancy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope it's a nice smooth journey for you. Please try not to worry too much, I know how hard it is, but just enjoy every second Smile

Congratulations! Yes I've had 2 healthy pregnancies with pcos and no medications. Good luck!

I've had two completely healthy pregnancies despite PCOS. No need for medication or any special care at all.

Hiya

Was diagnosed with pcos about 15yrs ago and took 10yrs to conceive naturally before having dd1 with no medication. That was in 2014
Now pregnant again with no medication help and due august.

I was told I was never going to be a parent but 6 months after that and being ill I was pregnant.

Screw you PCOS!

Oh, only on aspirin due to weight that's it.

LMX0 · 19/03/2018 21:16

Ive PCOS and its never been mentioned as a problem altho i am under consultant led care and on aspirin although that could be due to my BMI and i am currently 21+4 and haven't had any problems and considered low risk 😊

cockupparent · 19/03/2018 21:20

I have PCOS like you I worried and had my head filled with risks. Later got told by a dr - once you actually are pregnant PCOS really makes no difference to the risks anymore. Enjoy your pregnancy and don't google!

VimFuego101 · 19/03/2018 21:20

PCOS also puts you at greater risk of gestational diabetes - so I would focus on making sure you eat healthy, low carb foods and that the doctor tests you for it.

Nemo03 · 19/03/2018 22:40

Thanks for all replies girls made me feel so much more at ease!

A couple of you mentioned your on asprin but you think that’s associated with your weight / bmi, by this do you both mean you have a higher weight/ Bmi? Because this is the case for me also - is it low dose asprin you are both on? X

Yes ive i high BMI (size 18) there is a lost they go with and if youve two or more things on the list you will be given aspirin to take its a low 75g dose some of the things on the list where
High BMI
First time mother
Over 35
Cant remember the rest sorry the aspirin is to help the placenta deliver to baby and think its to help with blood pressure as well as you can be at higher risk of getting high bp

Honestly @Nemo03 I wouldn't stress about taking this or that... trust your body. Trust your doctors. Avoid google.

There's really nothing you can do to maintain a pregnancy- if it will be, it will be, until 23 weeks... no medical intervention is going to avoid anything tragic. Make that milestone and then by then you feel the baby moving and it's a lot easier to cope with the anxiety. That's my advice anyhow after a mentally very traumatic pregnancy due to anxiety after infertility. I'm currently about to TTC number 2 and I've promised myself - once I fall pregnant I will do my best to eat healthy, exercise gently and keep my mind distracted till after that milestone and just try to enjoy being pregnant as I hated it first time around and if anything awful had happened- I would have had no happy memories of that baby which would have been hell to live with. Thankfully he is now 5 and incredibly healthy.

I hope I don't offend, your posts just reminds me so much of how I was and with hindsight this is what I would tell my former self

cockupparent · 19/03/2018 22:59

Also the fact you conceived first cycle is amazing news that your body does do what it is meant to! Take confidence that that is where you are coming from

Nemo03 · 20/03/2018 11:34

Thanks so much for all your replies! No offending at all sometimes it’s good to hear from someone just to STOP WORRYING! Haha. I’ve wanted a baby so badly for so long now I just pray this is a sticky one ❤️
