How to cope with morning sickness at work?

I'm spending 99% of my weekends in bed feeling like utter rubbish.

I'm a teacher so need to be very energetic at work, but at the moment I'm mostly just focusing on not throwing up 🤢

I'm only 7 weeks tomorrow, have tried the constant eating and small sips of water (drinking anything makes me feel worse if I'm honest)... I have to take my class on a school trip this week and am actually dreading it.

Any tips to magically make the effects of MS less noticeable? (Wishful thinking perhaps?)

Chewing gum helped a bit but otherwise, no sorry. Just try and get through the day and try not to think about how long it might last! By 15w mine stopped.

God it’s miserable isn’t it?

How bad is it? Are you keeping food and fluids down ? There are some safe otc antihistamine that can help but it’s best to check with your gp (not all are safe.)

Eating and drinking made me feel worse too so I feel for you. I tried those pregnancy sea bands, ginger sweets, ginger beer (pop obviously), ginger biscuits etc, none of those helped me. It was a miserable few weeks of the constant nausea but much easier on me as I only work 2.5 days! My friend got the antisickness meds from her gp, I never pursued it Cos it was the nausea i was struggling with and thought they were mainly for vomiting but she said they really helped. Definitely worth looking into Cos I wanted to just lie down until 14w when it finally eased a bit!

Ginger ale was amazing for my morning sickness. Also, eating something salty, like a bag of crisps very slowly.

It took it right away after only a few minutes, I know that it's not the same for everyone, but it's worth a try for you!

Oh god I'm a teacher too and also have a class trip this week. I've not been sick much but have been mega nauseous to the point of having to leave my class unattended sometimes to get a breather. Thankfully well behaved classes.
I have sick bags in my desk (not needed yet), constant bottles of water, chewing fun, ginger biscuits... and the thing I've found most helpful is rice crackers that I nibble constantly! I'm nearly at the end of my first trimester so reeeally hoping it gets better...

I've also found I feel better when I'm outdoors so fingers crossed our trips are okay? The coach journey might be tricky though - sick bag in my handbag!!

Best of luck!!

Mints and rennies help me. I almost always have either a trebor mint or spearmint flavoured rennie in my mouth Grin.

Thank you so much for all of your replies! Thankfully I am able to keep stuff down so hopefully it'll stay that way. I'm dreading getting up at 6am for work tomorrow but I think I'm just going to have to suck it up... with a pack of cream crackers, ready salted crisps and fox's mints on hand!

Grazing constantly helps, but if it's severe push for meds.

I have been constantly eating something today (hard boiled sweets are working but oh, my poor teeth).

I did however, skip my pregnancy vitamins this morning and I have felt much more human today. How important is it that I take these? I will try them again tomorrow to compare but I have a feeling they're making me feel so rubbish. Oh dear. I want a healthy baby but I also want to not hate being pregnant...

Hopefully, you've been feeling better today! And which pregnancy vitamins are you taking? I was really ill with iron tablets, but was okay with Pregnacare liquid supplements.

Aw12345 · 19/03/2018 15:52

I feel for you, absolutely the worst part of pregnancy by a very long way!

Agree with all above, I found jacket potatoes and nuts helped (not together!!). Also trying to stay positive... Just give yourself a pat on the back for every day you survive, i ticked it off on a calender to try to give myself some light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck!! Xx

Anatidae · 19/03/2018 16:05

You need folic acid and vitamin d.

Everything else should be ok if you can’t take the pregnancy vitamins- I could never stomach them. I’m anaemic now and the iron tablets make me feel so sick

MochiBean · 19/03/2018 17:30

So much for feeling better today. Got home from work and immediately threw up haha. At least it held off until I was out of the car... Confused

I have ordered some alternative chewable vitamins from amazon which are in doses rather than all in one go... hopefully that will help with the nausea - in the meantime I am going to eat as much marmite as I can get my hands on haha!

It’s hard working in open plan offices as everyone can see what you’re eating and a can of ginger beer/tea and biscuits in a woman of a certain age is sort of obvious! Anyway although I loooove ginger it didn’t help me at all. Cold fizzy water, Diet Coke (allowed 200g of caffeine and a can is about 50g), salted crisps, extra strong mints, belvita breakfast biscuits. I surreptitiously ate these. I was snacking constantly but couldn’t eat a big meal at all. I was not often sick but constantly nauseous. Beans on toast, buttered bagels and rolls on crisps were what I lived in weeks 8-18 then started to get better though still felt weird about some food and heartburn becomes an issue too with food, even with drinking water at the end. And ugh brushing my teeth - your gag reflex is so sensitive isn’t it. Good luck and congrats.
