Hi there, can anyone tell me - what does the baby actually lie in/ do (?) when not asleep in moses basket ?! (or feeding) As in during the day ....Am I supposed to get a baby gym or blanket to just lie it on, sorry this is such an embarrassing question but I am due in 5 weeks and need to figure this one out! Friends babies have usually just slept in their carrycots or baskets all day and I never really gave it any thought.....Should I move the moses basket from the bedroom to the sitting room in the daytime and just keep lying baby in it....or what.....help....

You can just move the moses basket around the house in the early days. You can also bu a bouncy chair for the lounge when they start to want to do more than just lie down. The have hanging things dangling down to play with. play gyms are excellent too

Oh thanks Lucy. Will the play gyms be any use at first or would they be more a sitting up thing?

they are a lieing down thing and some babies like them from birth. My first loved his from about 6 weeks. My second hated being put there until about 3 months I think and now she likes it (8 months). It gives them something to lok at when you have to go to the loo, cook dinner etc

You could also consider a sling such as a coorie pouch for the baby during the day in the early weeks. Many babies like the closeness, particularly if they are a bit unsettled.
Play gyms are great after a few weeks - babies use them whilst lying flat on their backs. And oh, what I wouldn't give to have known about bouncy chairs before my son was 5 months old. Get one!!

I used to haul my DS around in a moses basket, until the fateful first HV visit when I went to get him from upstairs and one fo the handles got caught, ripped out of my hand and my son rolled out of the basket onto the floor in front of her SO BE CAREFUL!

Hi, I would definitely buy a bouncy chair, my 5 mth old still goes in his now. Babies sleep loads in the 1st few weeks, approx 18 hrs per day so the moses basket will be great. We just took him up to bed with us when we went, still in his moses basket and put the moses basket in his cot IYSWIM, so we didn't have to disturb him.
Good luck x

don't buy anything

they're not going to need it for a few weeks after they're born

much more fun to buy for a baby you have already and watch it use it straight away

put your feet up

read a book

if you've got vest, nappies and a moses basket you don't need anything else till it comes

just play it by ear

The baby gym thing was definitely our best present. Well worth it.

We borrowed a bouncy chair and it didn't do much for ds but lots of babies really like them.

Ds also enjoyed lying on the floor on his changing mat naked and having a good kick after the first few weeks (before that he hated being naked!)

They really don't do much for a while so don't worry about lots of toys and entertainment - they'll mainly be sleeping, feeding, crying, being cuddled. Enjoy!

I found a vibrating bouncy chair was the best buy ever, ds was quite happy in that while we had dinner etc.
Otherwise he either slept in his pram of moses basket, which we just moved up and down the stairs in the morning.
We had a young einstein play gym, which was fab but ds didn't really show much interest in it until about 5 weeks, but he loved kicking about naked on a towel from about 3/4 weeks!

You don't really need much to be honest, most of the time in the first few weeks they are sleeping or feeding and they will sleep anywhere.

So excited for you, have fun and don't worry argos and mothercare sell everything you will need, so you can always buy things as you need them.

I had ds and dd in a carrycot and just moved it around. Dd loved play gym, ds hates it. Dd loved bouncy chair and ds hates it.

We have this

It's great because it goes up to toddler. My nephew is the same age as DS and has grown out of his bouncer. I even use it to feed him now he is on solids. It really is the best thing we have. DS is 7months and has usd it since birth.
