30 weeks & reduced fetal movements

I'm 30 weeks and earlier this evening I realised that I hadn't felt baby move as much as normal today. Usually get periods of pretty strong kicks and rolls but I don't remember any blocks of time with active movements.

I drank a glass of water and lay down and not much happened. Ate dinner and lay down again. Took about an hour but I counted 20 or so movements.

Sounds good but the kicks just aren't quite as strong as I normally feel them.

Reassured by the kicks I did feel tonight however keen to know if this seems normal?

I've also had an increase in braxton hicks today. Not sure if that is noteworthy.

1st baby so any advice is appreciated!

Ring your mw right now is my advice.
Nobody regrets making a call.

Elizakennedy · 16/03/2018 20:47

Ring up delivery suite, any change in movements no matter how small should be checked out.

Myfirstbornisacollie · 16/03/2018 20:48

Get off mumsnet and call the delivery suite you need to be checked over and baby monitored tonight

Myfirstbornisacollie · 16/03/2018 20:50

Sorry for the abrupt message but you need to talk to a midwife not us!

Naughty1205 · 16/03/2018 20:57

Please ring the hospital. You don't want to regret anything. Just get a scan.

SmittenApril · 16/03/2018 20:58

Call the hospital now, they will be glad to see you.

RNBrie · 16/03/2018 20:59

You really must call in. You'll probably have to go in for some monitoring. It's boring but you won't regret it.

MissOrganisedMe · 16/03/2018 20:59

As has been said above, get checked. I was a couple of times toward the end of my pregnancy.

ProseccoPoppy · 16/03/2018 21:00

Please call the hospital right now. They will need to do a CTG. they really really won’t mind you going in - I did yesterday and they were able to check that all was well. They will never ever criticise you for going in for reduced movements - you really must.

Stinkbomb · 16/03/2018 21:43

I hope you've already taken the advice and are at the mat unit - if not, please do it now, you won't be wasting anyone's time.

sunandfire · 16/03/2018 22:44

Definitely take the advice that the other users have given, but I'd just like to offer my experience (also 30 weeks). My baby has days when he moves more, and days when he moves less. Sometimes periods of a few days. At first it really worried me and I ended up in the emergency obstetric unit because of it, but I've realised that it's just part of his usual pattern (I think he just says lazy days). Definitely contact a midwife and try to get checked ASAP, but I'm just trying to offer you a little breath of fresh air rather than panic, panic, panic! I was so panicked when I went to the emergency obstetric unit that time they didn't want to let me go home right away cause my pulse was so high (baby was fine, though) ☺️

Hope all goes well!

sunandfire · 16/03/2018 22:47

Just has lazy days*

Thelampshadelady · 16/03/2018 22:50

I’m the same sun my baby’s pattern seems to span over days rather than daily. Busy days and quiet days. I still panic on quiet days but I’m learning that’s how it seems to be. Also have an anterior placenta which doesn’t help.
Hope everything is ok op.

EarlyNinetiesDecor · 16/03/2018 22:58

With my second baby, at around 36 weeks I didn’t feel she’d moved around so much one day - from mid-afternoon to about 11pm I hadn’t felt much at all. I rang MAU, went down in a taxi (felt some massive kicks on the way down there 😐) but the midwife was lovely, told me I was right to come in and hooked me up to a machine where I had to press a button when I felt movement. An hour later I was on my way back home feeling very reassured. Hopefully all is ok with you and baby Smile

Counter27 · 16/03/2018 23:24

Yes in the unit now thanks. Baby is looking good but waiting for the doctor as I've had a lot of tightenings while I was hooked up.

Hoping all is okay and will get home soon 😴

Hope all goes well. Also 30 weeks and baby keeps having lazy days and then he’s frantic for a couple of days and then back to lazy - so I hope it’s the same for you too.i think it largely depends what position mines in by the feel of it. When I feel movements down low that’s when I hardly feel much and when they’re up higher I feel and see loads

Ninjamilo · 17/03/2018 09:45

I went in for monitoring for the same reason and was made to feel like I'd wasted their time 🙁 Was told it didn't matter how strong the kicks were, as long as I could feel them - wasn't very reassuring!

ProseccoPoppy · 17/03/2018 10:15

Good luck Counter - hopefully all good - I’ve needed doctor review before too, just them being safe. Ninja that’s awful, so sorry you’ve had that experience - mine have always always emphasised that it is not a waste of their time at all and that they want me to go in. If you feel able it might be worth raising your experience with PALS as - in my Trust at least - I am sure they would be horrified by that, they can’t seem to do enough to say to keep going in. Even as I was discharged after 48 hours of reduced movement monitoring they said to come in again if any concerns at all, even if that meant later that day. I really hope they won’t put you off going in if you need to Sad

LostMyBaubles · 17/03/2018 10:17

Hope everything is ok op

Counter27 · 17/03/2018 11:22

@Ninjamilo that's terrible! They couldn't have been nicer, especially as baby almost started kicking away like mad from the moment I arrived.

They were so busy last night we weren't seen by the doctor until after 4am. Everything looks good, not sure why I'm having so many braxton hicks. Back on Monday to have a growth scan but all seems well. Reassured but exhausted this morning after getting home about 5am 😴

I think it depends where you are as well as who you see - the midwife with the woman opposite when I went in was lovely!

It did put me off going back a bit to be honest, but I am close to 2 hospitals so considering changing!

EarlyNinetiesDecor · 18/03/2018 12:46

Glad everything looked good for you Counter Smile

cazinge · 18/03/2018 16:51

I went in Friday night / Sat morning (am 31weeks) & Lovely MW told me they would rather see you everyday than you to worry or something to not get checked.

PossibiliTea · 18/03/2018 18:55

Counter I’ve just recently been to triage for the exact same thing I could feel some movements but felt totally different to the strong kicks I had before.

I’m glad you got checked out sorry it was an early morning job at least it’s preparing you for the early mornings! I don’t know about you or what they advised, but I think these babies are at a stage now where they are bigger and we still have plenty of fluid so don’t feel every little flutter or a strong kick, it’s more soft movements and the occasionally jab.

Always worth going getting checked though
