My last day (first baby) currently due to be 37 weeks and 4 days (I only work 4 days a week) but from 33 weeks am cutting down (using holiday) to 3 days a week.

Do you think that will be ok? I’m already blinking exhausted at only 14 weeks but live offshore and the max can have off is 7 months so want to spend as much of that with baby as possible

I'm 35 +5 and planning to work up to 39. I'll listen to my body though. If it feels too much ill finish earlier

HerSymphonyAndSong · 17/03/2018 07:27

My ML starts the day before my due date but I am taking 10 days’ AL beforehand which with bank holidays means I’m finishing at 37+2. Now that I am 32 weeks I can COMPLETELY understand why some women finish earlier! I am ploughing on and fortunately my job and commute aren’t too physically taxing but I am getting increasingly tired and uncomfortable

At 36 weeks so I could have 4 weeks to see movies, sleep in the day, go to cafes, and catch up with friends and generally have an awesome staycation before dc1 arrived. So so glad I did. He was a week late to arrive and it was such a lovely 5 weeks break before the onslaught! I have never regretted not having the time at the other end of maternity leave as it was so great to have the memory of that time to myself Grin

Finished last Sunday at 35 weeks. Have three weeks of holiday pay then official mat leave starts at 38 weeks.

Was kicking myself I didn't start sooner. Getting up at 6am when you haven't got to sleep until 4.30am, then having to stand for ages is not good and was knackered all the time. Also my last week of work my boss was on holiday so I had to cover for her. We were so understaffed and was run off my feet!

Now found out I will be induced at 37+5 so very glad I have a few weeks to relax and spend time with husband.

My last shift is 2 weeks today, I'll be 35+1 however I'm really struggling with pelvic pain and I'm trying to decide whether to try and get signed off for these last 2 weeks, I'm a midwife but I can barely walk for 10 mins at a time without being in agony and getting tightenings Sad

Currently 20wks with DC2. I’m planning on working until the day she is born! I’m a teacher and summer hols start the day I turn 39weeks. Planning on getting there and then officially giving my start of maternity as the day baby is born so I don’t waste summer holiday pay on maternity leave! This means I can take more time off with baby. With DD1 I managed to work until 39weeks even with SPD. SPD has started earlier this time and already worse but really hoping to do it! I only work 2 days a week so fingers crossed! X

Took 2 weeks if annual leave from about 37 weeks then started May leave 8 days before my due date. He was 6 days late so I had nearly a month off. I had an easy pregnancy and an office job with a reasonable car commute so could have gone longer but had a wonderful couple of weeks buying the last bits for the baby, batch cooking and lying on the lawn in the sunshine practicing relaxation exercises! I’d probably do about the same length again.

Taking maternity leave from 38+2 and having 2 weeks annual leave before then (36+2).

I do have a university module to finish off in that time though so I'm hoping DD doesn't make a too early appearance! Also keen to not be travelling by bus everyday.

IFancyASliceOfCake · 18/03/2018 10:54

36 weeks with DC1, but he was 2 weeks late so ended up having 6 weeks off before his birth, which wasn't ideal. Wish I'd gone longer, but hindsight is 20/20 vision, eh?

37 weeks with DC2. Finished on the Friday, she was born on the Saturday Shock.

PrimeraVez · 18/03/2018 13:31

39+5 with DC1. Finished for the weekend and went into labour the night before I was due back at work!

Scrumptiousbears · 18/03/2018 13:35

I worked right up until a few days before the due date. I had SPD and walked with crutches. Yes it was hard work but I'd rather have had time the other side.

TriJo · 18/03/2018 22:31

Finished on a Friday at 37+4, admitted to the antenatal ward to start induction on the Monday evening at 38+0, baby born 3 days later.

I finished at 36+5 with my first son and had over 4 weeks to be lazy at home before he arrived!

lovelsa · 19/03/2018 13:04

I stopped working exactly 1 week to the day before my first decided to make his appearance. And the day I went into labor I had been cleaning our house - on my hands and knees scrubbing the crap out of the place! (I blame it on the nesting instincts!!) It was fine for me because my pregnancy was pretty easy (minimal sickness, energy levels were totally fine, etc). This time around I feel DRAINED and I'm only 17 weeks!

You need to do what feels right for your body, if you need to slow down then do so! x

BitOutOfPractice · 19/03/2018 13:06

DD1 - finished at 5pm Friday, went in to be induced 8am Saturday

DD2 - when contractions started
