I just need a bit of a rant really. I'm 32+5 with my second child, and the baby (like it's elder sibling) is measuring large for dates. I am being managed by a consultant as I am high risk due to previous c-section and having a high bmi. Other than severe hyperemesis which has now cleared up, everything is going swimmingly - my blood pressure is excellent (116/61 today) and my urine is clear, I have had the recommended GTT which came back negative, but because the baby is measuring large (steadily along the 95th centile line on the chart) I feel like I'm being over-managed and having choices taken away unnecessarily. The plan originally was to try for a VBAC, that is no longer being entertained at all due to the size of the baby and they're talking about a planned c-section at 37-38 weeks, which I feel is unnecessary intervention. I am fine with having a planned c-section, however I don't see why I should have it before my EDD. We just have big babies in our family - I was 9lb+, my husband is 6"3 and was a 10lber, my ds was 10lb, dnephew was 9.6, ail was 10lb+ it's just the way we are. I'm being called back for yet another growth scan in 4 weeks, plus they want to re-do the GTT (I have no symptoms or reason to believe that I have developed GD since I had the GTT less than 4 weeks ago), I know this isn't AIBU but AIBU for wanting to be left alone a little bit to try and enjoy my pregnancy?! If I felt there was any problem, or suddenly my baby's movements changed or my BP went squiffy then obviously I would understand but everything is so far normal...

Ahh sorry you’re not enjoying your pregnancy. Have they said why the C-Section needs to be that early?

Belliniteeny · 15/03/2018 16:53

I know this must be frustrating for you, but it is better that they are taking precautions and keeping an eye on things to ensure the best outcome for everyone.

They want to do a c-section early because they don't want me going in to labour with a large baby. My argument is that if I do go in to labour prior to my due date then the baby won't be as large as they are expecting... plus as has been discussed on other threads, growth scans have a margin of error.

I'm grateful that they are keeping an eye to keep us both safe however I do believe that it should be a rational approach.

Another GTT will just pump baby full of sugar...

I feel for you, a lot of the time things are tick box exercises.

As you said, big babies run in the family - you can say no to what they are suggesting though

Good luck!

I don’t understand their need for Intervention ? Is it because of previous c section ?
I’ve had three large babies - last o e was 10lb10oz and I am only 5ft3 and slim - in my experience the bigger the baby the easy it shoots out at birth anyway !!

FranticallyPeaceful · 15/03/2018 18:24

My babies were just shy of 10lbs and I’m overweight this pregnancy so they’re quite overbearing with me too because I make big babies.
I’m happy to deliver Big babies, so honestly it’s none of their business. If something goes wrong during labour they’ll be the first to know and I won’t resist a section - but I also won’t have one randomly either.

That said, I find out next week if normal birth is even possible due to my placenta .

Honestly if I was you I would agree to a section ((((if you want one)))) only if I made my due date. If it happens before then I’d be trying naturally.

It doesn’t matter how you give birth but it does matter that you’re happy with your choice

FranticallyPeaceful · 15/03/2018 18:24

(That said, only half are overbearing. The other half want to leave me alone)

PistFump · 15/03/2018 18:37

Yes my first ds was born via c-section Just after his due date - he was induced on his due date because he was measuring large and the induction totally failed (no labour, no contractions, no dilation or anything) so this time they're intervening because this baby is also
Measuring large and they don't want me going in to labour full stop. I'm going to say no to another GTT unless I feel I need one. I'm happy to have another c-section but not before my due date.
