8.5 weeks pregnant, mid relocation and need to book in

Hi everyone,

First post for me so really appreciate replies!

Basically I miscarried last year at 8 weeks. I found out I was pregnant again but we are now in middle of relocation (4 hours away) due a family illness and needing to be close by. The midwife from our current location (Midlands) said to book in once I'm 7 weeks pregnant. I called to do so at 7 weeks, but was told there was a huge wait and to call the specific midwife clinic at the GP's surgery, only to be told by them to call the GP back and book in there.
In the meantime, we are part way between living with said relative in South West, buying a new home in the South West near to them and selling our home in the Midlands.
I thought it might be better to register temporarily with a GP in South West near my relative and at least I will end up going to the same hospital when we eventually get our new house (should be about 5 weeks off completion roughly).

I registered with the temporary GP last Friday, no problems and explained the whole situation. They said the Midwife would get in touch on Monday, which she didn't. I called on Tuesday to check and the receptionist said she would chase but I should hear by the end of the week. I haven't heard anything yet, would people chase tomorrow, in morning or afternoon.

Obviously I'm a little nervous after miscarrying last year, and also, I don't want to be in a situation where I'm forgotten about as I'm temporary patient somewhere. I'm beginning to think I should have stuck with my original GP, although I'm in South West most of week, caring for relative, and husband has managed to relocate his job, so we're only going back at weekends really til house is sold.

This is our first baby, and although the GP rather patronisingly said 'it's not very good timing, is it?' I agree but we are not spring chickens and have been trying for over a year!!!

Has anyone been in similar situation and how did you manage to get in touch with midwife? Can I just self refer to the hospital? I'm trying to stay calm but also, I know from experience with some things if you don't chase and leave in other people's hand as you think everything is fine, you can get forgotten about, and obviously I don't want to miss my 12 week scan.

The hospital in the South West will likely have an antenatal clinic with an out of area team (for those who live for example just over the border of the area the hospital covers, and choose to use the hospital). They should be able to book you in and do your care if you cannot see a midwife at the surgery for any reason. If not, they will be able to chase the midwife at the surgery for you. Failing this, ask for the telephone extension or email address of a maternity matron or community midwives team leader and they will sort your issue pronto.

ok, thank you, I will try that course of action if I don't hear anything by tomorrow afternoon. It's good to know I should be able to go direct to someone instead of hanging about.
