baby lying traverse, will it turn?

My sis is due the end of June. She has just had a scan and was told the baby is lying traverse, face down, so the cord would come first. Is it likely the baby will turn, or is she destined for a c-section? She has to go back in four weeks, and if it hasn't turned by then, she will be kept in and thinks she'll have to have an early section.

Anyone experienced this?

TIA

babies can turn until pretty late

first baby until 36 weeks, subsequent babies even later

don't know about transverse specifically, but know this to be true in general

lulumama · 07/05/2007 14:38

yes, have heard of babies turning later on, even transverse ones!

\linl{http://www.spinningbabies.com\spinnng babies is a good site}

if the baby does stay transverse, she will have to have a c.s birth as there is no way to deliver a transverse baby vaginally.....

My ds would occasionaly go into the transverse position but only for a matter of minutes.
It was a really weird feeling and my bump would disappear from my belly button down. All I was left with was a baby shape lump across my tummy

He'd do it for a minute or so then go back head down.

But when I went into labour and started pushing, he went back up and did it again. The midwives got my legs in stirrups and pulled me down the bed and he turned back again but just came out face up.

Just bumping to see if anyone else has any thoughts. Think sis is a bit scared of a section, though both her natural labours were very tough.

my dd was tranverse quite late on then turned breech and wastoldi`d have to have c section but she turned one night without me even knowing near due date so its possible but i did lots of exercises to try and make her turn plus homeopathy

Hi Annie
Get her bouncing on a gym/ birthing ball, sitting forward rather than slouched and crawling around. Might help turn baby.

Hope it all goes well for her.

Dd was transverse at around 37wks. Like your sister I was told I'd have to stay in hospital if there was no change by 38wks. When I had my next scan dd was head-down and stayed that way. No c-section.

Thanks girls, that's reassuring. Good idea about the gym ball too. Here's hoping...
