Hi
I'm 11 weeks pg with my 3rd dc and having a horrendous migraine. I've suffered with migraines since I was pregnant with ds2. Ive done everything the doc told me to. I've had my sumatriptan but it won't ease. Any other tips?

Cool pack and bed.

Migraines in pregnancy are awful I really feel for you. Have you tried having a small amount of caffeine? Sometimes the caffeine withdrawal doesn't help and some people have reported drinking something caffeinated helps.
Otherwise 4head, a dark room and plenty of rest is all I can suggest.
Has your doctor said it's ok for you to continue sumatriptan? Mine wouldn't prescribe anything.

Seems to have kicked in now. Have been prescribed sumatriptan and codeine by a neurologist but have been avoiding them but today's one was just awful. Been building up for a week.

The gp said they were fine in pregnancy as the migraines are so severe. I don't want to take them but I just couldn't cope this evening.

There was definitely a couple of times that I would have taken one if I had one. Unfortunately I took Zolmitriptan pre pregnancy which definitely isn't safe but no one would prescribe me Sumatriptan :(

I'm the same, 10 +3 now and had two migraines so far (had them since I was 15 so is common for me!)- I was told paracetamol and that's it! So have had to just rest, use 4head, ice packs, tried some caffeine and just allowed myself to sleep as much as I need to. It's a nightmare though, not being allowed anything stronger or any preventative drugs!

Just realised I haven't responded.
With regards to the meds, I had to see a specialist during my second pregnancy on the onset of migraines as I had a suspected dural fistula. After several mri's it was ruled out but because the migraine had lasted 3 weeks I was prescribed the codeine and sumatriptan. I wouldn't have taken it otherwise. On the onset of migraines in this pg the doctor prescribed it again. If it is really severe they can prescribe you meds. It's just they (rightly so) have not been trialled on pregnant women so they try to avoid it where possible.
