'Recommended' induction - protein in urine. MLU still possible?

Throughout my whole pregnancy urine samples showed proteins present. It has never been an issue as my blood pressure is normal (even on the low side). Suddenly as I reached 40 weeks my MW decided to send it to the laboratory and it came back as 170 reading. Panic calls followed urging me to the assessment unit with suspected pre-eclampsia. My blood pressure was 120/80, retested my urine sample (I took a great care collecting it to avoid contamination) and there was no protein! A consultant still wrote on my notes that he recommended induction as the baby is now full term and he suspects I develop pre-eclampsia as my booking-in BP was 110/60.
Clearly this is over the top? So far I declined the induction and will go again tomorrow to have my BP and urine measured.

My plan was to have a natural / water birth in MLU. I am really upset it might not happen anymore. Can they disqualify me from the birth centre based on those numbers? I clearly do not have raised BP

I'd be really wary about taking advice from an internet forum over a consultant tbh.

It's your choice whether or not you accept induction. At the very least I hope they have given you another appointment to check blood pressure and protein again soon as rising blood pressure can be a sign something is going on.

Pre eclampsia can present as a rise on bp not necessarily high bp. I think you need to be cautious tbh op.

Have they taken bloods to test for pre-eclampsia? The results of these should be far more telling than just BP and protein alone. Also have u any of the other symptoms such as headache swelling etc.?
They should be using all of this information to build an overall picture really.
Another thing they can consider is a 24hr urine protein collection which can be more accurate at detecting overall protein levels than single readings alone.

In our area those ratings and consultants experience would eliminate you from MLU and they would refuse you on medical grounds.

You can refuse consultant care but they may get you to sign a waiver saying it's against medical advice.

Speak to your consultant again and get an in-depth look at why they have done that assessment.

Thanks all for some insights. My bloods came back all clear, normal levels with everything. Going to the hospital tomorrow morning to check BP and urine again and discuss further steps. Could I have been just really unlucky to have my urine samples contaminated with vaginal discharge?

Could have been.

My urine has protien in it a lot due to PCOS and discharge can cause some contamination but if it's a high reading I doubt it would be from that alone.

Good luck mama.
