Hi guys,

We have just found out I am 1-2 weeks pregnant. We are so very lucky as it was our first time TTC however I wasn't really expecting it to happen so quickly. What do I need to do next?

How soon do you tell family members? What can I eat? What can I not eat!? Am I still allowed to exercise regularly? (I go to the gym 3 times a weeks and I play a non contact team sport).

Sorry I am just very new to all this!

In a lot of areas you can self refer yourself to the midwife at about 6 weeks pregnant, you do this online and I found it by doing a quick Google search. You then get a booking in appointment which is usually between 8-10 weeks though this varies from area to area.

Read the NHS website about what you can and can't eat. I think there's a lot of other advice on there relating to pregnancy so it's worth a read.

General advice re, exercise seems to be that if you did it before then you can continue but taking extra care. If you lift weights it may be best to maintain the weight you're at rather than increase whilst pregnant.

Telling family is entirely up to you. Some people tell them early on, others wait till they've had their 12 week scan, there's no right and wrong as it's personal preference. I told family at about 7 weeks pregnant because I figured if something went wrong I would need to lean on them for support but I know others want to keep the news to themselves till they know they're at a safer gestation.

Congratulations by the way!
