We've just had out 12 week scan and screening blood test - me and OH both got quite stressed over it - I think it's just being super-excited about being pregnant and then given information about probabilities and tests that are quite difficult to get your head around.

Anyway the NT measurement was fine, we got told that if we come back as high risk from the blood test we'd receive a phone call within 4 working days, if no problem then we'll hear by post in about 10 days.

It's been just over a week and a day now so we're obviously happy we haven't heard anything, but at the same time we're feeling on edge until we get some news - made slightly worse by the fact that the results of the first blood test the midwife did (a few weeks ago) seemed to go missing somewhere.

Do all hospitals operate on this system? Feels like it's a super stressful way of doing it!

Mine was like that too, just got the results through the post a couple of weeks later and all was low risk. Unfortunately because the bloods get sent to a different lab for genetics you can't really ring to chase them. Try not to worry you'll get them soon enough and im sure it will be good news!

My bloods picked up a problem with a growth hormone and they rang me within a few days, I then did receive letter with results a week or so later, so I would definitely say no news is good news :)

MissDaisy18 · 09/03/2018 16:35

Thank you both. You hear what the doctor says but then don't really believe that the process is foolproof (or we do anyways!)

Ahhh different lab would make sense, they said not to ring them up at the clinic for results.

(We are visiting the family at the weekend so wanted to be able to tell them our news! And also being pressed on a response to a walking holiday from close friends so also need to decline that this weekend).

They always say don't ring however if you ring your day unit and ask for your booking bloods results they will actually give them to you. They do go to other labs so can take up to a week to sometimes come back but if it's really niggling at you just give them a ring and ask, I can assure you you won't be the first to do lol

That's what has happened in both my pregnancies, they said 3 working days if an issue, within a fortnight if not. For this one though, our Trust has moved to on-line notes and my results showed up there before the letter came out.

Bluebirdsky · 09/03/2018 17:22

If you are worried give the antenatal clinic at your hospital a call and ask if you results are back yet. It never hurts to call and ask.

El1995 · 09/03/2018 17:37

I felt super on edge when waiting for my results so just rang up my hospital and they gave them to me over the phone :-)

Oysterbabe · 09/03/2018 19:09

It is nerve wracking. I was on pins thinking my phone was going to ring.

WelshMammy123 · 09/03/2018 19:48

Is there a screening office at your hospital? If so perhaps give them a call if you're feeling anxious. Chances are all's ok but we assumed all was ok as had not heard anything but then got a call after two weeks saying I needed to go and repeat the blood test. It all turned out to be totally fine and they'd made a mistake based on my history and an assumption I'd need the NIPT but it was stressful none the less. To this day I've still not received the paper copy of the results!

MissDaisy18 · 10/03/2018 10:17

Thanks all - just rang the clinic they just said 'take it as a good sign and they'll write to you in a couple of weeks'.

So guess we just have to wait! Although scheduled midwife phone call on Monday so will mention then too.

Our NHS area doesn't write to us anymore and we don't find out til our next mw appointment or consultant at 20 weeks.

That's 8 weeks of me not having a clue as the scans weren't done right and having to rely on a blood test.
