Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone else has had a positive test?

I'm currently 35+4 and originally went into triage with reduced movements, the machine was picking up contractions which started to get a little painful whilst I was there.

Had an internal and wasn't dilating however they did the swan which came back postitive.

They've admitted me right away inserted cannula and everything and have emergency scan first thing tomorrow to check babies positioning.

She said the test is not always accurate and although I could well go into labour within the next few days I also could not.

Just wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences and if so what was the outcome? Xxx

I’ve had 2 positive FFN’s before and they were both inaccurate. Meaning supposedly I had a high chance of going into early labour (these were before 28 weeks) and I didnt, ended up going to term. So in my opinion they’re not a great test of anything!

I had this done at around 32ish weeks and I managed to get to term
Turned out I had UTI and hadnt been picked up.was in delivery room 2x and thankfully everything turned out ok

I've had a positive FfN that didn't result in a baby. I've also had 2 negative FfNs both of which ended up with a baby within 3 days. The Consultant did warn me they're notoriously inaccurate.

They are known to have a high false positive rate. Basically if the test is negative it's quite a good indicator that you won't go into labour anytime soon but if it's positive it doesn't mean that you will.

I had a negative FFN test at 29 weeks. Waters broke 6 days later, and DD was born 5 days after that. They aren't always accurate. Best of luck.

I had one at 27 weeks with DD2, cervix was short and funnelling by her head but still closed. Nothing for 6 days then went into labour.
I'd try not to worry you're so close to term now, with my third they did stretch and sweep 37+0 weeks. My first DD was 32 weeker and came home at 35 and a half weeks they've done their important developing by then just bit of fattening up left to do. Smile

Thank you all,

Just been discharged had another growth scan and baby's growth has tailed off, back on Monday for Doppler scan and another ctg then another growth scan Thursday and appointment with my ob to plan induction.

So either way looks like I'm getting to meet baby early! However have been told not to be surprised if I do go into labour on my own over the weekend and was reassured that baby should do just fine being so close to term.

I have one naughty baby had nothing but problem after problem 😩

Surprised they did one at your gestation, not often done so close to term. They sometimes do it to guide whether to give steroids in earlier gestation. Had a positive one at 24 weeks and funnelling cervix, cervix lengthened and baby eventually born close to term - wish they'd never done it, the anxiety was horrendous and predictive value really uncertain.

Hope baby is ok, keep monitoring movements and hope you meet your baby without too much more anxiety.
