Harmony test?? Is it really that accurate?

Just that really. I'm 36 now and this is my third. Downs is in our family - my cousin has a gorgeous son with ds.

I didn't have any tests with my elder two but think this time the risk is higher. It wouldn't bother me but dp isn't so sure.

Has anyone had any false results?

I had one in 2015 when they were relitivly new. As far as im aware it cant give you a false reading it is either yes or no, as your chromosomes are tested.
It cost me over £1000 back then

I think there is a tiny risk of a false positive but not a false negative if I remember correctly. It's an amazing test as it can tell you many, many things. I had it twice.

It's a screening test not diagnostic so gives risk rather than yes/no, but it's much, much more precise than other screening tests.

I think the result is 1 in 10000 (so as close to "no" as youll get without invasive testing) or 1 in 2. You would still get an amnio to confirm a "positive" result.

If you want to know then it's by far the best test to have.

It's considered screening in the UK, but in other countries (suspect & Scandinavia) it's considered a diagnostic test as it's so accurate.

I don’t know about the test, but if it’s any help to you - Down syndrome is not (usually) a heritable condition - at least, having a cousin with a child with DS indicates no greater risk to you or your child.

There is a small risk that if it's a female baby they can test your dna instead of the babies it's worth checking with whichever company/lab that are doing the testing what their specific rate for this is.
The detection rate for Edwards and Patau's is often lower than the one for Down's so again worth checking with the individual company what their rates are.
Generally it is more likely that the test would give a failed result (no result at all) than an incorrect result.

Thanks all. I think I'll go for it 😊

I think the Panorama test is better than the Harmony, more sensitive and and tests for a few more things. It does take a bit longer to come back though, 7-14 days as it goes to America. I've just had it.

Sanson · 09/03/2018 10:46

The harmony test used to go to America too but the labs are now in UK as well.
I have had the harmony test twice and it's 99.99% accurate. In my case, yes.
