Yes, I was very, very desperate preggarspoppet.

Re the actual position summerfruit, as well as SPD I also have a chronic back disability and was advised by a physio to lie on my side for the birth and did find it bearable.

A good physio/osteopath etc will always advise on what positions to avoid so you don't exacerbate any condition and that really did help me.

summer, the accupuncturist will spend a long time talking to you and examining your body (even asked me to remove toenail paint to look at my toenails!) and taking history on your pregnancy and previous health. the also feel pulses all over the body and I think they base where the needles go on all of these factors as well as what the texts books say. the needles go in at various points over the body, but don't worry, I was expecting her to put hundreds in, in actual fact the first session I had 4 put in down my back and one leg and the second session I had 7. they then heat the end of the needles while they are in place, the good thing is that you can actually feel something happening to your body, a strange kind of numbing sensation for me, but not at all painful.
I was totally stunned by the results, it transformed my pain and my miserable personality as a result! my dh said I had come back to life once the pain had gone.

I also wonder if a chiropractor/ostoepath might be reluctant to treat you for the first time so near to your due date as a treatment needs time to 'settle down' after, and so you would need to take it very easy for at least 24 hours.... might be wrong though

the pregnancy induction technique is done using the big toe I think!

i had spd really bad with my last pgnancy, and asked the consultant if i could be started off early.i was induced at 38 weeks.i couldnt walk anymore without bursting into tears!

not sure if your mw will do a sweep though, but its worth asking.

Not read entire thread sos orry if i repeat anyone elses comments.
I suffered bad spd with both my pregnancies and delivered both girls naturally without any complications - both were also inductions(due to high BP not SPD). I think when you are in labour you are in that much pain elsewhere that the last pain you feel is SPD pain. Mine certainly wasnt an issue during labour and delivery - I did deliver both while laid on my side though.

Forgot to say - I also had a sweep with dd2 but was no good - think it only works if you are due to go into labour naturally anyway within 24/48 hours.
