Defrosting prawns

Sorry if stupid question...

I'm making a Thai green curry right this eve. I always just defrost frozen (cooked/peeled) prawns by drying them in a pan then add the coconut milk and paste etc. I know you're not supposed to do thst as the packet says defrost for 8 hours in a fridge but it's just what I always do and never got ill from it. However at 10 weeks pregnant... do you think this is still okay or could it do any harm? Thanks in advance!

Defrost as instructed Hun in pregnancy don't risk anything with seafood xxx

You can run them under cold water to defrost if you don't have 8 hours

I think it would be fine. They’d be safe to eat frozen even. So long as they are hot in the middle then it’s fine.

That sounds like I’m contradicting myself! I mean they shouldn’t sit at a warm temperature for ages.

I defrost thoroughly under running cold water, only takes a couple of minutes. In my opinion much safer than cooking from frozen (although I think that'll be fine too tbh). There's nothing more dangerous Arbor seafood just because you're pregnant.

You can add them straight to a curry from frozen. As long as they are cooked properly you will be absolute fine.

But, if a prawn is off, it’s off and you really won’t know until it’s too late.

The one and only time I have ever had food poisoning was from a birds eye frozen prawn curry. It was horrendous.

about not Arbor. Hmm

Thanks guys. As it happens, when I started frying them I almost threw up anyway so I gave them all to my husband and ate a curru made of peas and carrots lol. You're right - maybe not worth the risk but I like the idea of running under water first.
