Things that you DIDN'T/DON'T get in pregnancy despite everyone telling you you would

Inspired by the things no one tells you about pregnancy thread, how about the things everyone went on and on about that didn't actually happen. I think some people take delight in scaring pregnant women, especially first timers.

For me: no morning sickness, no cravings, feet didn't grow, no water retention and no afterbirth pains. Unfortunately (second pregnancy) the tailbone pain is already getting started like last time and I'm only 19 weeks. And the less said about breastfeeding the better...

Oh and no water retention/swelling

No stretch marks or piles (so, far, am midway through second pg) was never sick.

Greebo I had that too! Luckily it resolved spontaneously shortly after I gave birth.

Came on here thinking I was lucky. I think that no longer. You bunch of absolute jammy bastards.

My post partum poo didn't hurt. That's it. I reckon it's because I didn't poo for 4 days and I must have healed enough after for it not to be that traumatic. Still got the extra weight, the dark tummy line and the stretch marks. Thankfully without the sickness and insatiable craving for cereal though.

Recovery from c-section is awful compared to vaginal birth. It wasn't at all. Absolute breeze after the first 48 hours of being shit scared to bend over etc. Not a single moment of pain.

(I didn't get stretch marks until week 40, btw...just saying Wink)

BertieBotts · 06/03/2018 21:53

Touch wood, I have never thrown up during pregnancy.

I got stretch marks at about 39+3 with DS! Bastard! Grin (I'm joking I don't really mind them at all.)

I didn't experience the hair falling out thing?? Though this time my body hair seems to be going insane, I don't know about the hair on my head, so maybe it will all fall out later.

I don't really seem to crave stuff, I just get massively thirsty and so I suppose I crave juicy things, like fruit. But if I drink enough I don't get that.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 06/03/2018 21:53

Well don't be too jealous because after my 2nd birth I didn't get a baby to take home.

"Glow"

Thought of a few more: no stretch marks, no Braxton Hicks, no pain weeing or pooing.

I know we're a jammy lot but this could be encouraging to people considering/starting their first pregnancy. People are more likely to post on here about problems, which could give a skewed perspective to newbies of how likely they are to experience them.

Pregnancy isn't a slog for everyone, although it's never really easy. I think it's important to hear both sides, and I still think that for issues I did have such as crippling back pain after giving birth and excruciating-to-the-point-of-quitting breastfeeding pain.

I wish I could write a list on all the stuff I didn't get either but I got EVERYTHING! 😢 you bunch of lucky souls!
Saying that, I haven't got cravings for anything in particular, but I do want to eat everything in sight. I think my craving is just food in general.

Morning sickness and bigger boobs - even with twins.

MaMisled · 07/03/2018 09:47

No cravings, no stretchmarks, no nesting/cleaning instincts! None. In 3 pregnancies!

TorchesTorches · 07/03/2018 09:56

No morning sickness, no cravings, no back pain, no stretch marks, breasts still look more or less the same after nearly 2 years (9 months DD, over a year DS) of breastfeeding. Body back to normal weight after 3 weeks (DD only, it was 6 months with DS!) No baby brain. no nesting/cleaning instinct. No water retention or swelling. Also no 'glow'. Generally pretty pleased with my 2 pregnancies!

FloydOnThePull · 07/03/2018 10:37

I'm currently around 26 weeks and so far I've had a couple of weeks of feeling queasy around 10 weeks and I now have a bump but other than that my life and my body has carried on as normal.

Oysterbabe · 07/03/2018 14:13

No heartburn or cravings
