Early scan

Hello, I got my BFP yesterday and am currently around 4+4 so very early. I suffered a MC last year and as a result I'm very anxious that something will go wrong, I know I can't do anything to change that if it does but I'd like the reassurance of an early scan. I'm just wondering what the earliest is that anything is likely to be seem from a normal scan (i.e. not internal), there is a place nearby but it says you have to be 8 weeks, just wondering if I was a bit earlier than that (due to cycle length being irregular I could be a few days less or more) would there be anything to be seen? I did have an early scan with my DD but I can't remember how far along I was then.

Sorry to hear about your MC Flowers

I went for an early scan at 6+6 and saw the heartbeat very clearly on an external scan. It was recommended not to go before 6 weeks as if your dates are a little bit out there might not be anything to see and that causes stress obvs. This was at a baby bond centre, they give you all the advice on their website as well as locations so you can see if theres one near you :)

I saw from an external at 6 weeks 1 day- but generally they wont do it that early at a private scan- it usually says on website.

This is because they cannot guarantee you will always see a heartbeat and so it can just worry you for no reason if no sign of heartbeat. I think it is usually 7 weeks they will scan from.

I went through the same- a miscarriage and no matter how many times you get a reassurance scan it doesn't always work to reassure you.

After my early scan I was then worrying that I could still miscarry before 12 weeks etc. In fact I worried all the way through my pregnancy, had loads of scans and now have a healthy baby.

So, I'm just saying try and go easy with the scans as they often don't really reassure you.

Thanks for the responses. rubyroot I can't even blame the MC for the anxiety, I was exactly the same when pregnant with my DD, and after she arrived I said I would definitely worry less in any subsequent pregnancies - then along came the MC which ruined that!

I have seen a few that say from 6 or 7 weeks but they offer the internal as a back up option, the one I've seen doesn't do that. I might go for one that is from 6 weeks just in case anything can't be seen.

I'm having an early scan at 8 weeks because if you see a HB at 8 weeks the risk of MC drops from 25 to 5% so I know that if o do see a HB on that scan then I can relax a little, or at least try to!

I think I'm still going to book for when I think I'll be around 8 weeks, I just didn't want to only be 7+4 or something and nothing to be seen, or at least the option for an internal scan.

I had an early scan at 8 weeks after previous miscarriage.
I know people have mixed views on them as it doesn't guarantee anything, but for me as well as wanting some reassurance I also really wanted a photo - might sound daft but I never got one with my first pregnancy.
Although I was glad to have the scan, it did only reassure me for a few days and then I went straight back to worrying again but I think thats quite common x

I had a scan at something like 6+3 due to bleeding and saw a heartbeat.

What I would say though is that whilst they can somewhat give reassurance you're still not completely in the safe zone till 12 week plus. Some people still don't feel all that reassured after having them so you need to think about whether you'd fall into this bracket.
