Why Choose Caesarean For Your First Baby?

I am new to pregnancy and wondered for what the reasons would someone choose to have their first child by Caesarean section?
My friend mentioned it is more risky than a vaginal birth but I thought it was less risky because the cord would be less likely to get wrapped around the neck and it won't get stuck and stressed.

Women are capable, intelligent, autonomous adults who can look at the facts and the risks/benefits and decide what they want for their body/baby/birth. I just feel with discussions regarding maternal request sections you get the suggestion that those who make this informed choice don't understand what they're doing, are making the wrong decision ect just because the person commenting wouldn't do it personally.

@DuggeeHugs @sunshinestorm StarStarStar I can't find a clapping hand but I absolutely agree. What is right for one isn't for another. Informed choice is so important X

Mine was an ‘emergency’ c section when it became clear at 9cm dilation that what everyone had thought was a head, was a bum. They gave me the option of continuing vb or c section. I chose c section because after 36 hours I was knackered, and I didn’t trust that one of us wouldn’t get distressed as he was delivered leading to instruments/episiotomy. I felt I made the right call. If I’d been less tired I might have attempted Vb but as it was, I was very happy with my choice.

I’d actually started with home birth before coming to hospital. Apparently I needed to sample all of the aspects of maternity care :) . It was a positive experience even though on paper it didn’t go ‘right’. I had good care, felt listened to and from the start I decided that I wasn’t going to have a way things should be. I got to 9cm with paracetamol and a tens machine, but the epidural was pretty amazing. I did have preferences re instrumented vs c section but I was able to make that choice.

I was out of hospital after 24 hours. I walked out rather than in a chair. I have a small scar just below my bikini line. Recovery was pretty uncomplicated. My partner and family made sure I rested after the operation. At about 4 weeks I started to feel almost normal physically although I still am taking it cautiously re running at 9 weeks.

Birth is unpredictable particularly first time round, and I can understand why the anxiety. The total unknown! I handled it by researching and prepping but also not getting stuck on a certain option. They all have advantage and disadvantages. There is no ‘best’ option. For me, the pain was manageable (although I never got to pushing), it was messy and weird but in the moment you really don’t give a crap about it. C section was best choice for me.

Has anyone looked in to beaming the baby out? Seems like that would be the best way Grin

Thursday during when I was younger I did used to comment on star trek about why the women still laboured when it could all be beamed out! I bet if men gave birth it'd have been invented by now.
