Pre-baby Cleaner Etiquette

Sorry, not a particularly pregnancy related question!! But I have booked in for a deep house clean for when I'm around 38 weeks pregnant.. and we've never had such a luxury before so not too sure how I'm expected to act if anyone can offer some help!

Am I supposed to tip? (The agency are sending two cleaners, a man and woman, to carry out the clean and have been quoted £100)

Do I stay in the house or go out? And if I stay where do I perch myself without getting in the way?

Should I keep our two cats out the house?

Thanks ladies!

Sorry I'm of no help but I actually would like to know this too!

I’d go out, you’ll be in their way if your at home. Make sure the place is tidy first, as in stuff off the floor so they can hoover, surfaces clear so they can dust etc.. Don’t worry about the cats, if they have access to a cat flap chances are they’ll go out when they hear the hoover anyway! If it’s through an agency and you’re in the UK then I wouldn’t have thought you’d need to tip (I only tipped my regular cleaner in the UK at Xmas or if she had done something above/beyond).

And if you can afford it I would definitely get them to come back once a week for the first month or so (or indefinitely!) after the baby arrives. It’s a small thing but the difficult early weeks will be made much easier by not having to worry about the cleaning. Personally, unless the house was a real state, this would be my priority over a clean before my due date, especially as you could go overdue and the shine of the deep clean would be long gone by then.

I've only had cleaners in once (I wont say why but it was a necessity rather than a luxury at that time!) but we didn't give a tip. We left the house (it was a very small place and we would have been tripping over one another) and cats were out anyway but best to leave them out of the house until everything is dry so they don't get chemicals on their paws. A deep clean doesn't normally go on longer than a couple of hours, so plenty of time to go shopping, grab some lunch or whatever - I just sat in the park reading a book!

Quite honestly just hide the valuables and put away any baby clothes or toys bought so no chemicals get on them

I've used the service before for a work clean and they advised for any if their staff coming in to do the above and sometimes they require you to stay in house etc - insurance reasons and let's you know they haven't made a set of key imprints.
(I've worked security for 10yrs - it happens!)

The company you are using should give you a list of what's required.

Tidy up, meet and greet to show them any particular areas you want them to concentrate on / be careful with etc, then go out.

I don't think tip-this isn't America :) But maybe leave out mugs for tea, coffee and milk for them to make a cuppa and exit swiftly having locked up your jewels!

Then enjoy your sparkly clean house. When they have left ❤️
