Is anyone taking them? Or have taken them?

Do they work?

Was going to speak to my doctor about them. I assume they’re perfectly safe during pregnancy?

Morning sickness is horrible. I took Cyclizine up to about 16 weeks which definitely took the edge off it.
Anti sickness tablets can't be deemed 'safe' during pregnancy as it would be unethical to test them on pregnant women but I think you can take them without worry. I did my research on Cyclizine and didn't suffer any ill effects. This is from someone who didn't even drink coffee when she was pregnant just incase Grin

How often are you being sick? Or is it more nausea? I’ve taken every available sickness tablet with varying results, but I had hyperemesis. I found that some reduced the number of instances of vomiting but nothing reduced the nausea. I was an extreme case though; they may well work for you. How far along are you?

Firstly, I wouldn't take anything like that during pregnancy without your doctor's advice. If you're really struggling with sickness, make a GP appt asap and discuss it with them first.

As to whether they work or not, different medicines work for different people but most people don't find any to be a miracle cure or take away the issue completely, they can also have various side-effects, and they generally don't help nausea but only reduce the frequency of vomiting. For safety, there are many deemed to be 'safe' on a risk-benefit analysis, but the general rule is not to take medication during pregnancy where it can be avoided because medications are not tested on pregnant women for obvious ethical reasons. However plenty of anti-emetics have been used by pregnant women for vary long lengths of times and most studies do not show any adverse outcomes. Pregnancy Sickness Support and BUMP have good information about all this.

On a personal level, I had HG for the first few months of my pregnancy. I tried Cyclizine first, which didn't help at all and knocked me out, I was so drowsy and out-of-it. I then tried prochloperazine which didn't help at all. I then took a comination of prochlorperazine and ondansetron and the ondansetron helped a bit, I came off the prochlorperazine and didn't get any worse so it clearly was having no effect. I did get some horrible side effects from the ondansetron though but it reduced my vomiting from like 20 times a day to like 5. Eventually I came off it and my sickness actually got even better and I got rid of the side-effects. I'm 24 weeks now and haven't taken anything since I was about 15 weeks I think. I'm much better now thankfully.

I took phenegran from 5 weeks, I went straight onto the maximum dose. Baby is fine. If you have bad sickness take them. I'm consultant led and was always told they were fine. However, I had side effects but I much prefer side effects to that level of sickness

Yes, they can help. They will work differently on different people so you can try different ones if the first line don’t help. (For me for example some of them did help with the nausea, & others did sod all for anything even though I know other people they worked really well for).

Weigh up side effects if you end up with them but keep in mind that if you have really bad sickness, that has side effects too. Dehydration in pregnancy is not good for you. Neither is being utterly utterly miserable.

(I had HG throughout pregnancy, drugs were a godsend.)

I had HG and Ondansetron was the only one that helped me at all.

CocoLoco87 · 04/03/2018 00:12

I tried cyclizine in both my pregnancies but it didn't work for me. Made no impact for first one and second pregnancy when I tried it again the whole room started spinning and I got restless legs and arms from it.

I had hyperemesis both times and was in hosp on drips etc. I took metaclopromide and ondansetron from 6wks till 42wks first pregnancy and from 4 weeks till 40wks second time round. I was still incredibly sick even with the meds but they did help.

I also took iron supplements because I was absolutely wiped out all the time and had low iron count. 2 sachets of spatone each day, once I could keep drinks down

meandmytinfoilhat · 04/03/2018 00:23

I was prescribed stematil for HG. It didn't stop the vomiting but it did reduce the amount of episodes over the full pregnancy.

I was prescribed the ones you sit under your lip but they didn't work.

polkadotpixie · 04/03/2018 10:53

I'm on Promethazine 25mg, 3 x day. It helps a reasonable amount and I think I'm starting to improve now I'm nearly 12 weeks. 7-10 weeks was my worst period

Hairgician · 04/03/2018 11:31

Cyclizine for me with ds1. This time around needed ondansestron aswell as cyclizine. Managed to wean off them few weeks ago but sickness rearing its ugly head again.Angry have a check up tomorrow morning so will be asking for a prescription.

I was being so Ill. Couldn't keep anything down at all for 2 days but had been being sick for about a wk prIor. I went doctors as last resort. I couldn't take any more. Was so dehydrated. She put me on Metoclopramide I take 3 a day. Been on them about 4 wks now they are really helping.
They help take the nausea away too.
Do what is best for you. Was against taking Meds during pregnancy other than paracetamol. But I would of ended up in hospital and didn't want that.

bubblegumble · 05/03/2018 06:32

I went on the one beginning with C that others have mentioned at 25 weeks because I was still being sick.

I take one or two a day - usually just one in the morning. It has helped massively!

I don't get sick or nauseous now.. unless I stop taking them!!

I'm 35 weeks now and they've been a life saver.
