Bedside crib to fit IKEA malm bed

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and starting to think about buying our bedside crib. We have an Ikea malm bed which is very low to the floor and has a wide lip around the edge. Does anyone know of a bedside crib that would work with this kind of bed?

I've looked at the next2me, which seems like it might work, but would like to hear others experiences before taking the plunge.

Could you use a snuzpod and just place the crib part on the floor rather than the stand?

I was hoping to get the crib to fit snugly with the mattress. I don't think that would work with it on the floor?

We have this bed and have had the same worries regarding the Chicco Next2Me. We bought the Chicco anyway because it doubles as a travel cot. We haven’t actually tried it yet but I’m hoping it’ll fit.. it says it’s adjustable? It’s one of those things that I want to leave until much nearer due date as obviously it’s going to get in the way otherwise.

Sorry that wasn't helpful in the slightest. Basically following to see what people say and pray I bought the right one 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Thanks envy, based on the measurements in the website it should work, but I'm not totally sure??

Anyone else had any luck finding a crib to fit?

We had a baby Bay which was very height adjustable. Cheaper if you buy from Amazon Germany!

Oh the baby bay looks good. Possibly a bit more expensive from a quick google

We have a malm and used the next2me, it fit perfectly, no problems

You might want to make your own. I did when we had a bed with a lip. You can convert any of the ikea cots, actually! Standard cotbeds also normally work to convert because they are designed to be sturdy with the side removed.

First you need the cot and a mattress. Measure to work out where the cot base would need to be to make the cot mattress level with your own, then drill new holes to accommodate the base at that level.

Now place the cot right next to your bed, slide the cot mattress across so that it bridges the gap and add something very firm, not fluffy and that can't unravel on the other side to provide counterpressure. I used rolled up old towels (so they were quite thin but didn't come unrolled). You could also get a bit of high density mattress quality foam fitted.

If you have smooth floors or very thick carpets it might be worth attaching the cot to your bed with bungee cords (like roof rack) or cable ties. Regardless of whether it's attached, you need to check it every single night for gaps (this goes for the commercial bedside cots too).

We have the Ikea malm bed with the edging, and I also bought the Chicco next to me, I tried it quickly and seems to be okay ☺️ won't be putting it up properly until baby is here, but needed it on the highest the Chicco would go for the mattress to flush together. Hope that helps. X

Ooh that’s reassuring nomorespaghetti and LittleFox01.

Looks like we might be in luck, Squashpocket! Smile

The Chico next to me fits fine with the malm bed. If you look at the Chico advert it’s the malm bed (or very very similar!) that’s shown.

holycheeseplant · 04/03/2018 15:54

The Ikea gulliver has been used / adapted a lot as a bedside cot. I'm thinking of using it again this time.

Fantastic, thanks all! Will go with the next2me Grin
