Advice needed re car seat and stroller issue

EdieMcredie · 04/05/2007 18:40

Just bought a britax trkker which is fab but the instructions say that you cannot put the newborn in the stroller, but that it has to be in the car seat until 9 months.

I thought that it was dangerous for a baby to spend too much time in a car seat and should be flat as much as possible, ie actually in the stroller (which lays flat).

Help!

hmmmm thats odd.

MrsShrek · 04/05/2007 18:43

it is dangerous. studys have shown that oxygen levels fall after 20 mins in a carseat!

the thing is pushchair manufacturers dont think about this fact when slapping them on buggies unsuitable for newborns!!! r

So am I right in thinking a baby should be flat as much as poss Misdee?

not good.

There are two babies just up the road from me who are always in their carseats. Both have weirdy shaped heads.

One mother doesn't even bloody drive and she has the pushcahir hood down all the time so the baby can't see her. When I mean always in their seats I really mean it. Only out for feeds(sometimes) or nappy changes.

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 18:44

yes they should be completely flat. in a carry cot at first and then in a pushchair that lies almost flat. have only ever seen one pushchair out that lies completely flat - wish i knew which ones it was.

EdieMcredie · 04/05/2007 18:45

Ours lies completely flat. Aww MrsApron that sounds awful.

Oooh misdee will mail you. APologies bath time will mail later (but I have found one cup holder)

hijack over

And yes, flat for six months preferbaly on a padded mattress.

Or in a sling. Proper one not a bjorn.

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 18:47

ediemcredie which one is it. think the one i saw was graco or britax.

MrsShrek · 04/05/2007 18:47

where did you get the pushchair from? they should have told you when you bought it. Saying that tho i just googled it to get a pic and the site says suitable from birth!!!

MrsApron · 04/05/2007 18:48

Really weirdy heads. Almost totally flat at the back with kind of corners at the top and two flat bits going up to the pointy bit at the back from sleeping with their heads resting on the side of the car seat.

Horrible. Boys too so heads will be on show at some point even if not when they are small when they go bald and get a buzz cut it will be so obvious.

EdieMcredie · 04/05/2007 18:49

It does say suitable from birth!

Yes I got a britax trekker from Kiddicare. Really confused but it's lovely!

possibly a mistake in the instructions?

oranges · 04/05/2007 18:52

ooh, i rented this for ds at 4 months on holiday. I didn't read the instructions, but I do remmber ds rolled around it quite a lot. A newborn can lie flat, but the mattress is not really padded enough and i didnt think it provided much support for a new born. I was glad to get home to my bugaboo!

CarGirl · 04/05/2007 18:53

perhaps get a newborn support for it?

misdee · 04/05/2007 18:54

have also googles, says you can use the pushchair from brith.

lilylilyrose · 05/05/2007 12:28

Hello, I've got this buggy/carseat too and was also a bit confused to find we're not supposed to use it for a newborn! (am currently 27 weeks pg) I don't drive, so am expecting to make very little use of the carseat - I'll get a sling if need be.

Just to let you know, though - I don't know if your buggy came with the matching footmuff, but I bought one for £4.99 from kiddicare and it makes the buggy look MUCH comfier - I think a relatively small baby would be just fine in it.

EdieMcredie · 05/05/2007 12:48

LLRose Yes we too got the matching footmuff from Kiddicare. I love my trekker and cannot find anything bad about it as yet although might change my mind when baby comes!

Such a bargain for £99.

i had this problem with my mutsy. some sites said the pushchair was suitable from birth, some said 6 months and the instructions said from 6 months. maybe it was to get people to buy the carrycot?
