Leaving the umbilical cord unclamped = better for your baby

Hello - thought this might be worth sharing with mums-to-be. Read that leaving the cord unclamped for two minutes after birth can boost the baby's iron reserves for months, according to some new American research here . Might be worth adding to the birthing plan - can't see it can do any harm...

It is supposed to absolutely. It's worth mentioning in your birth plan. I did this as I had no complications but hospitals are only keen to do it if this is the case... amazing seeing the cord pulsing... though really all eyes are on the baby of course!

leaving the cord unclamped and uncut does let all the blood in the cord go into the baby, rather than go nowhere, there is no real hurry to cut the cord, but it mostly is. also, it should probably be done as part of a physiological 3rd stage , i should think

certainly cannot do any harm

until it has stopped pulsating!

i had it in birthplan, but if there is intervention then you have to cut it quickly. i had a drip of something to increase contractions so they said they had to cut it.
