I've just recently moved out this way from London and I'm now expecting my first child.
So many questions about pregnancy and the Chipping Norton area so it would be great to hear from anyone local!

Hello!

Welcome to a lovely part of the world.

I'm currently 16 weeks and living in Northleach, shortly due to move to Ascott (one of the villages surrounding C/N), and grew up in the area...

What would you like to know?

:)

swoophigh · 02/03/2018 14:39

Oh amazing! Thankyou for replying so quickly!
I wondered what other options there were for labour other than going to John Radcliffe? I'm a bit apprehensive that it's a 40 minute drive away!!!
Oh and do you know about any ante natal groups/ yoga classes around C/N?

Also how's 16weeks treating you? Xx

There is a yoga class in Witney.. you can find it by googling 'yoga room witney'.. I think that you can join past the eight week point..

Although there is probably something closer to you, as that would be 25 minutes away.

I used to go to a class in Chipping Norton run by:
karenbilespt.co.uk/ she was super good and may be able to offer something/point you in the right direction!

16 weeks is a breeze compared to the first three months :D much more energy.. how far along are you?

summeryet · 02/03/2018 15:16

Re antenatal classes.. I'm not sure.. I've joined an NCT course, but that's Cheltenham way. Perhaps try their website for something closer?

There used to be a children's centre in Chipping Norton which ran groups, again google might be your friend.. sorry not to be more use!

For hospitals.. you have the Horton which is 30 minutes away in Banbury (much less traffic than getting to oxford) and Chipping Norton hospital used to have a midwife led unit.. but again I'm unsure if it's still open.. there were some funding issues a few years ago. Perhaps the medical centre can assist?

I'm in Abingdon. The JR is a fab hospital but they're putting more into the Horton in Banbury and I hear good things about Warwickshire too :) Oxfordshire has awesome midwife care that I can see. We're due to pop in the JR so I can let you know later how it goes.

Just2MoreSeasons · 02/03/2018 15:43

Hi
Am about 15 minutes away. Went to JR for both of mine (a journey close to an hour each time) - they were fantastic!
Check these people out in Facebook -they're great and nearby:
Birth Baby Balance
They do classes, offer doula services etc.

Doublegloucester · 02/03/2018 15:56

I'm another imminent birth at the JR, so can report back (long journey to JR here too ...)! The Horton is midwife led with no consultant care so you might as well stick with the mlu at Chippy if you don't need consultant care (I think it is still open).

swoophigh · 02/03/2018 16:29

I'm 9 weeks and feeling quite queasy and tired. Very much looking forward to creeping over the 12 weeks and hopefully getting some relief!
Thanks for your help - the yoga place in Witney will be perfect as I work near there!

Looking forward to hearing from everyone about JR, I'm sure it'll be amazing. I think I'm just in shock that I now live so far away from a hospital! After years living in cities where the hospital is 10 mins away!

I now have my ds! The JR staff were very good but I did have a long wait in MAU on my own with dh whilst waiting to be assessed by a midwife - I was having very painful contractions and really needed a ball to bounce on and some pain relief! I also had to wait 5 hours the next morning for some pain relief as the staff were so busy, they kept forgetting to get it for me. As I say, the staff were great but it was just so busy, I think an mlu would have been much more peaceful.

swoophigh · 23/03/2018 19:31

Ah congratulations!! Boy or girl? Sorry I'm new to the Mumsnet lingo!
Are you feeling okay? Human? It must be such an exciting and crazy change having your baby there now! X

@swoophigh you sound remarkably similar to a friend of mine... if you’re not her (because who knows, the internet is a strange place!) I must engineer an introduction!

swoophigh · 27/03/2018 23:16

@Millypad oooh how exciting!
Very intriguing that there could be someone with a similar story to mine....would love to know more.

He's a boy :-) he's kept us busy as he had a tongue tie so wasn't feeding very well. Thankfully we've now had it cut so he is putting on weight - yay!

Sunnybuttercup · 30/08/2018 18:23

@swoophigh - this thread is from quite a while ago, so you must be well into your 3rd trimester by now - I hope everything is going well for you Smile. Where have you decided to go with in the end, the JR or the birth centre in Chippy? I'm currently at 19 weeks and dilemma-ing about the same question. The birth centre sounds like it would be a more peaceful and homey place to be, but it does worry me a bit that the JR would be such a long drive away in case of a last minute emergency. (Like you I've not lived in Chipping Norton that long yet, and was previously based in London.)

swoophigh · 30/08/2018 19:07

Ah congratulations!
Yeah I'm almost 35 weeks now so not long to go at all! Scary stuff!
How are you feeling?
I'm going to aim for the Midwife led unit because it just felt very calm and is much closer. Baby is head down so all being well I'll get there.
I'm going to look at the Birthing unit at the JR just so I'm familiar with it, what will be will be - trying not to set my heart on anything too firmly!

Where in London we're you before you moved?

35 weeks still sounds like ages away to me - do you feel like it's gone by quickly? (And do you know what you're having? I still can't make up my mind whether to find out.) I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get to have the birth you're hoping for at the midwife led unit in Chippy, but good idea to take a look round the JR and generally keep an open mind about things. I wonder if they'd let me have a quick peek round too, when I go for my next scan. (My first one was in Banbury.)
I'm feeling pretty good thanks - still at a stage where I can only feel faint little blips and can't tell for sure if it's actually the baby moving or just my tummy rumbling, lol. Oh, and we were living in Southgate, North London, but I did move round quite a bit within London. Where in London were you based? X
