I’m currently 8wks5days pregnant and I’ve recently started noticing my own scent mainly in the mornings once I’ve woken up, it’s so off putting, I often wonder how my partner deals with my scent lol. Yeah I’ve heard and read up about having a heightened sense of smell whilst pregnant but didn’t think anything if it tbh.

I’m also not fond of my flatmate feet, I don’t think he changes his socks daily because they don’t smell all the time it’s after he finishes work (I have just come to the revelation that I should buy him lounging socks as a nice gift. He doesn’t know I’m pregnant because he’ll tell everybody in our social group and I want to be the one to tell my friends. Also lucky that I haven’t suffered from morning sickness- well the vomit side of it, I get nauseous but that’s a lot easier to pass off)

Ohhhh dear this thread just reminds me of a meme “if I’m telling you a story then get ready to hear about 7 other stories in between”. I can’t help it, (well I could but that’s no fun) the only person I can talk to about it is my boyfriend and there’s only so much pregnancy problems he can handle before he switches off and puts on a car show on the telly.

Even stuff that I didn't know had a smell when pregnant, especially tea, I couldn't drink it for months!

Happies · 01/03/2018 17:02

Arh yes I remember this... our house suddenly had a "smell"... I thought my husband must have left something rotting somewhere but no one else could smell it!

We also had MDF wardrobes built when I was pregnant, and for months all I could smell was the MDF, it was making me feel so sick! I had to hang air fresheners throughtout the wardrobe to try and get rid of the smell!

Unfortunately it lasted throughout my pregnancy, but went away as soon as baby arrived.

Congrats, it's the best, hardest 9 months of your life xx

Bojangles33 · 01/03/2018 17:06

Yes, people are gross stinky meat bags. The pregnancy super smell is the worst super power ever! Sorry. I put olbas oil on a hankie and kept it on me at all times!

UrgentExitRequired · 01/03/2018 17:10

Heightened sense of smell in pregnancy is so annoying! Currently in the last trimester and I cannot stand the smell of chewing gum, toothpaste or anything minty. I can smell it from a mile away too. I really hope it goes after the baby is hear.

NoodlesLivesHere · 01/03/2018 17:21

I went through packets and packets of mints because everyone and thing smelled. The mint numbed the sense of taste and smell so it made things more tolerable. Also helped a little with the nausea.

Like others have said it normalised once the baby was born thankfully.

nik1985 · 01/03/2018 17:55

Yep, everything stinks 😂😷 Cannot stand the smell of toothpaste/mints/chewing gum, polos are the work of the devil! I have to hold my breath each time I open the fridge and cannot wash my hands with hand wash, just an old soap I stole from the hotel on holiday last year as it doesn’t smell! How daft!

AiryFairy1991 · 01/03/2018 18:01

We couldn’t use the slow cooker and even when the heating was on the house had a funny smell near the radiators. It was horrible. My husband spilt milk on our carpet and I could still smell it after washing and carpet cleaner (and more washing and more carpet cleaner) but no one else could!

My sense of smell went totally back to normal once I’d given birth though.

Ohyesiam · 01/03/2018 18:13

My partners pee was the most vile smell I could imagine in my first pregnancy.

Maisielovesbean13 · 01/03/2018 19:32

That is such a good idea, and cheap too.

Welp, replying to posts is quite odd on here aha.

Honestly when I first found out I was pregnant I was like yeahhhh I’m going to get superhuman scent detection, I thought I’d be able to detect particular notes in my favourite perfumes or identify the components in a meal but it seems I can only detect the smells I don’t like, definitely let my imagination run wild there aha.

Happies, So were trips to ikea a no go aha?
Bojangles33 the oblas oil is such a good idea and cheap too, I may have to start doing that too.

Nik1985 oh my, the fridge smell. I hate it. I’ve wrapped everything up in clingfilm and cleaned the fridge out everyday in hopes that every time I open the fridge it doesn’t make me want to vom but to no avail. I’m also the same with hand soap, I’ve ended up buying the brand simple, soap because it has no smell to it, absolute life saver

Urgentexitrequired when’s baby due? hopefully your mint aversion subsided when baby arrives

@Maisielovesbean13 I shall try the Simple soap, thank you! My hotel soap isn’t going to last long! I can’t wear perfume either - I must stink myself 😂 I got loads for Xmas too!

KitKatCHA · 01/03/2018 20:36

My husband reeked for all three of my pregnancies, I couldn't go near him at times as it made me feel sick. He was not impressed Grin

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 02/03/2018 06:38

My partner smells bad, our house smells bad, my rabbits smell bad, the fridge smells bad... everything makes me vomit and I’m 14 weeks now! 😩😂

Jenijena · 02/03/2018 06:45

I found that the first few days/weeks after birth the smell thing got even worse. Then it goes away...

isthismummy · 02/03/2018 09:32

I'm 10+1 and everything smells.

DH has to eat his solitary microwave meals in kitchen with window open. Cooking just does not happen now.

I've swopped my toothpaste for a strawberry one because mint is unbearable.

I work in Peckham and I cannot cope with the smell! All the rancid butcher shops were bad enough before I got pregnant, now it's unbearable.

I can't get busses at school leaving times due to all the kids piling on eating fried chickenEnvy

It's horrendous. I can't even stand the smell of myself!

MarthasGinYard · 02/03/2018 09:38

Fridge and dishwasher opening triggered instant vomiting in me even though both were spotless....

The radiators smelt couldn't have heating on.

We had a lamp that was particularly grim oh and magazine paperBlush

It's indescribable torture Op you have my sympathy

MarthasGinYard · 02/03/2018 09:39

Agree carry a nose gay like a Victorian ladyGrin

KalaLaka · 02/03/2018 09:44

Coffee is from the devil.
Additional devils: My fridge, heating, bathroom after a shower, tap water, bedroom after sleeping in it, nappies, tea, most food.

My saviours: lemon, lavender shower gel, lucozade.

I hate it!! I didn't wear perfume for at least a year after both previous pregnancies as the memory of how rank it was haunted me!

ineedaholidaynow · 02/03/2018 09:55

We had just moved into our new home when I found out I was pregnant. When we were looking round it it was fine, but as soon as we moved in it had a smell. Everytime I opened the front door to come in I could smell it and was instantly sick Shock It was a nightmare. DH couldn't smell anything and I thought I was going mad. Even thought we would have to move again as didn't think I could live there! Luckily this didn't last all pregnancy and I have never noticed the smell again.

I did also nearly vomit on DH once when he had eaten curry for tea and came to give me a kiss Blush Luckily managed to move my head away in time

FrozenMargarita17 · 02/03/2018 10:05

Oh god I hated this part of pregnancy. I could smell metal ALL the time. I was convinced I smelled of metal. My husband said I didn't smell any different.

Then I couldn't stand smelling other peoples food. It was awful working in an office!!

longtompot · 02/03/2018 10:07

I only couldn't stand the smell of coffee or blue Lenor. I thankfully got my love of coffee back after baby was born, but blue Lenor still turns my stomach.
I had horrendous morning sickness which lasted all day :( I stopped eating certain foods as the thought of being sick after them was just too much to bear. It didn't take me very much to vom though, which was a pain when out and about if I saw someone being ill, or dog poo or even anything not even remotely vom inducing Hmm

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 02/03/2018 10:46

Also Persil is the work of the devil.

LieInsAreExtinct · 03/03/2018 06:42

Thr worst part for me was trying to keep my pregnancy secret at work when people would eat their lunches around me. Raw onion in your salad, pungent West African spicy chicken (normally would have found that really appetising), a banana skin chucked in the bin in my office...heave!

MurphyDog5 · 03/03/2018 07:44

Oh I remember it well, everything stinks. I became very aware of my own scent & changed my underwear & socks 3 or 4 times a day.
For years I used the body shop satsuma shower gel & body butter & used to stock pile it whenever there was a 50% off sale. The smell of it made me wretch while I was pregnant so I had to stop using it & to this day (my daughter is nearly 2) the smell of it still knocks me sick. I’ve still got a cupboard full of the stuff even though all the women I sent birthday & Christmas presents to last year got an extra gift of said shower gel & body butter, haha.
