Flu

I am 29 weeks and have flu. I am feeling very sorry for myself. I have also found out that my pelvic floor is shot :(
I would like my ribs to myself if at all possible as sneezing fits hurt.
I know I can only take paracetamol, so apart from taking vitamin C and drinking honey and lemon can anyone suggest any ways of making myself more comfortable/giving this bug the push any quicker if possible please?

I'd ring your midwife and ask if you should be seen. I had flu while pregnant and it was horrific, but i ended up with a serious chest infection that needed a lot of antibiotics to shift. GP told me off for not going sooner, but I was really quite ill by that stage.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do other than rest as much as possible. A bath helped a bit though.

Do you really have flu or just a virus, if it's the former then call 111 for advice as it's dangerous when pregnant

If it's actual flu I'd ring your midwife/gp for advice. Flu is more likely to result in complications while pregnant.
If it's "just" a bad cold (which can still make you feel crappy) then paracetemol/honey and lemon/plenty of fluids is all you can do.

I'm probably being over dramatic and sorry for myself, normally I'm a get on with it kind of person, but I am so fed up with my body at the moment - SPD was makign work difficult even before breathing added to the challenge!
I was at work this morning but they sent me home early and DH ran me a hot bath which was bliss, then I had a nap. Now my temp has gone mad and the aches have started, my lips are so dry and the sore throat/productive cough...
I had a regular check up with the MW yesterday so baby's heartbeat etc were fine then. I'm going back to bed and waiting to see what happens next..
Thanks for the reassurance that I haven't missed any obvious self care things...

You can take paracetamol to reduce your fever.

Toscacat · 03/03/2018 23:04

If you think it's flu speak to midwife. You are likely to be prescribed an antiviral tamiflu to help reduce the risk of complications but it works best the earlier it's taken

IWantMyHatBack · 03/03/2018 23:18

Didn't the midwife say anything about your symptoms?

Id ring the GP. At least get a telephone appointment. Flu in pregnancy can be dangerous.

embarrassingquestions · 03/03/2018 23:54

Probiotics? Not an instant fix but an immunity builder

Saline nasal rinsing and salt gargling may help too

I have tried the few drops of hydrogen peroxide 3% in ear and find it works too but zero reason it should so likely just in the mind

Onions on feet

Garlic water

Onion in bowl next to you

Vicks on feet

All I can think of. Hope you feel better soon

IWantMyHatBack · 04/03/2018 00:08

All quackery (sorry)

Please ring your GP.

I really wouldn't take advice on something as serious as this from mn. I'm sure some of the advice given is very good, but at 29 weeks and with potential flu I think you'd almost be negligent to not get down to your gp or call 111. How do you know it's influenza and not a bad cold or virus? Have you had swabs? Gp is your best bet. Best of luck and speedy recovery.

Thank you all for your concern, didn't mean to disappear off the thread. I've had a very restful weekend (DH is a star x) I'm pretty sure it was a heavier cold than I'm used to rather than any real flu. When I saw the MW on Weds I was at the drippy nose/eyes stage, the rest of the symptoms appeared after that appointment. But after 3 days of doing very little I am now eating again and back in work, so I think I called flu too early. Bump is still wriggling happily so I'm taking that as a positive sign
