Stabbing / stinging pain in pubic bone

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and have been woken up three times in the last week by a stabbing / stinging pain in my pubic bone area. Lasts for a few minutes, then goes. Haven't had anything at all whilst I'm awake / walking.

Google suggests it's SPD, but I'm loathed to believe it. Anyone had anything similar? Does it tend to get worse? Anything that can be done?

Help!

Fanny daggers. How far along are you? I think it's quite common....but if you're unsure get it checked out.

I've had this on and off, don't believe I've got spd and always put it down to baby pushing on a nerve somewhere. Bloody painful and annoying, used to make me jump off my seat, spent all day at work praying it didn't happen whilst i was sat talking to a client haha

Ha! These have cheered me up no end. @beckieperk I'm 27 weeks. Fine, as long as it doesn't descend into walking with crutches, I can deal with it! Thanks both :)

Haha if it gets worse I would get it checked. Good luck.

@beckyperk fanny daggers is an amazing phrase, Im using it from now on

Im only 12 weeks and I get these, super painful sharp pain I asked my midwife about them and she seemed entirely unconcerned if it helps

This is how my SPD feels sometimes, it’s on the left hand side of my groin. Sometimes feels like burning, stabbing, bruised shiteness. Most of the time it’s in my joints though

Celticlassie · 01/03/2018 22:16

I had it all the way through. Midwife appeared to have no idea what I was talking about when I tried to describe it! But baby is here and fine. (Doesn't sleep, mind, but I don't reckon that's anything to do with the pains...)

madeyemoodysmum · 01/03/2018 22:57

Spd. I had it with my dd.

Agony and it started about the same time as you I ended up in a wheelchair for long trips out. I'm fine now though and baby was fine so don't let that alarm you.

Sounds exactly like spd to me, too. I had the same kind of pain in my pubic bone.

(I thought fanny daggers were more internal? That's how I imagine them, anyway!)

beckieperk · 03/03/2018 07:57

Maybe you're right Brutus. My pains did move around (or seemed to). Is there anything they can do for SPD anyway? Never had it.

BrutusMcDogface · 03/03/2018 10:22

I had it in my hips, particularly my left hip, and my lower back. You can get a referral for physio; I asked my midwife at 16 week app (as it's coming back again with my current pregnancy) and am on a waiting list. The physio told me that the Punic bone is in two parts, split down the middle. Ligaments get softer and stretchier with pregnancy, which makes things move about a bit. One side of my pubic bone and one hip was slightly higher than the other. Physio really really helped, and I had it after my baby was born, too. Mention it to your midwife!

EastDulwichWife · 05/03/2018 08:35

No! Okay, I thought it might be but the idea of ending up on crutches / wheelchair bound is too frustrating to consider. Bugger!

Nothing the last few nights which is good, and I did go for a long walk yesterday. Does feel like I've walked into a table though...bruised is definitely the word!

I have a midwife appointment this week so I'll mention it to her. Thanks all. Hope you're okay Brutus!

Most people with SPD don’t end up on crutches or in a wheelchair, so I wouldn’t worry
