Baby due - bad weather, what happens?

Hi, first time poster on mumsnet, just wondering, baby was due yesterday, there is not a chance we would be able to get off the street and the hospital is a half an hour away in good traffic. So I’m just wondering what happens in this circumstance, would we have to phone emergency services (I don’t really want to do this as I know having a baby isn’t an emergency), would the midwives try to send a midwife for a homebirth or is it worth trying to get off the street and driving?

I’d give your hospital/maternity triage a call to ask the procedure as hopefully they will have a plan in place

Problem with sending a midwife for a home birth is they do not have emergency vehicles , so it will take them just as long to get to you as for you to get to them also if there not at the hospital they need to go there to pick up there equipment x

I'd give the community midwife team a call now and ask them what to do if you go into labour.

Go and stay in a hotel as close as possible to the hospital?

Phone call is first step.

I'm only 26 weeks but had this convo with my partner this morning!
I really feel for people due to give birth right now, must be very worrying
He said if I was due now we would all go and stay in a hotel/b&b near the hospital, I realise that's not feasible for everyone but could that be an option?
Do you know anyone with a 4x4?
You could do an appeal on a local Facebook page etc and see if anyone has one and would be on stand by to take you to the hospital?
Is this your first baby?
Deffo ring the hospital and ask what their procedure is!
Good luck x

My friend who is a midwife is always on standby in weather like this, so if someone were to go into labour near where she lives and they can't get into hospital she would get a call and be asked to drive/walk (whichever is possible) to the woman who is in labour's house.

There will be plans in place if it happens during adverse weather such as this. Try not to worry.

YY to the hotel suggestion...

My friend went into labour when there was all that snow 7 years ago. The hospital sent a 4x4 ambulance with snow tyres 😁
