fifi-for me, about ten weeks, but some people have it all the way through.

Sorry you are feeling rough, guessing you have tried everything going? ginger, peppermint tea, etc etc

fifisworld · 04/05/2007 08:35

Tried ginger, ate about 2 packets of giner nuts in the past few days. I havent tried peppermint tea though, that might be worth a shot.
I just want it to stop
(( just ignore my complaining im feeling sorry for myself today))

My advice is eat little and often, bland stuff. I actually found that coke worked, i checked with gp and as long as you don't have cans of the stuff he said it would be fine. I felt sick on and off with dd for about 12 weeks, sorry to say with ds it was all the way.

about 14 weeks, keep eating little amounts.

lizziemun · 04/05/2007 09:31

Hopefully it won't last as long as mine.

Now 23 weeks, and still having bouts of MS, when i'm tired. Try to eat a little and often although i am finding it quite difficult as i have no appitite (sp).

flightattendant · 04/05/2007 09:37

Mine eased off a lot around 13-14 weeks, wasn't the only thing I could think about if that makes sense?
Hope yours finishes earlier!

Snarf02 · 04/05/2007 13:38

had awful sickness this time round but did stop at about 12-13 wks and then only in evenigns til 15 wks then vanished. Hopefully you will feel better soon, have you tried eating little meals, little snacks really regularly this did seem to help me a bit

cupcake78 · 04/05/2007 14:06

I started to feel better at 18 weeks.

Lucozade is good just take a mouthful every hour. It really helped.

Mints helped alot but don't eat too much sugar otherwise twenty mins later you will feel it.

Just like the other ladies have said eat small and regularly. Keep it simple and eat what you fancy, don't worry about a healthy diet at the moment.

Lemonade also works well but again little and often.

fifisworld · 04/05/2007 14:12

Thanks for the replies.
Im trying to eat little and often, but i just feel like i want loads and often which doesnt help.
Oh, and i havent managed to eat anything healthy for ages, i try but then just want junk so i'll just stick with what i want for now then try to be healthy when the sickness stops.

My queasiness wasn't too bad, but I found that salty foods helped a lot. Slightly spicy flavors of corn chips and buckwheat soba noodles with soy sauce, a few chunks of tofu, and a dash of vinegar were my favorites. Try corn-based foods. When I was in the midst of feeling a bit off, I spent a night on the internet looking up cross-cultural things about morning sickness. Aparently there are some "traditional cultures" in which it's completely unknown. Those are places where the diet is basically just corn, with a bit of other things occasionally. The article said that corn has very little of some type of chemical that can trigger morning sickness. So, what I say is corn chips.

I don't know when it will stop. I'm still getting it a bit, but less bad since 11 weeks and a bit.

I had hyperemesis so was at the extreme end of the scale. The women commenting here are posting the same useless advice I got. You are not complaining, nor should you apologise for "feeling sorry for yourself". Excessive sickness can upset your electrolyte balance, lead to severe dehydration and lead to complications. trust me - I lived it for 9 months thru 3 pregnancies. Get medical help if you are sick more than twice a day and can't keep much down. Eat & drink what you can, when you can. And like you say, don't worry what it is - any nutrients at all, no matter how scant, are better than nothing.
Take care, and all the very best for a smooth pregnancy

alipiggie · 06/05/2007 05:21

Another one who had hyperemesis here. Best tip I got from my gp was to drink a glass of sparkling water and eat a ginger biscuit before I got out of bed. It really worked. Eat little and often. Boiled rice is good. And as people have said, drink plenty. Avoid the sugary drinks if possible, I stuck to sparkling water and that was great. Later on about 12wks I started adding in juice to the water. Do talk to your gp/midwife about it though. I lost quite a bit of weight to start with - made up for it later on sadly . Congratulations too btw.

PurpleLostPrincess · 06/05/2007 11:29

Hi, I had Hyperemesis too and it faded away at about 14 or so weeks. I too found that boiled rice was good but the best thing for me was lots of jelly! Everybodies different but for me I found that I could make up a few different batches of flavours and eat whichever flavour I could cope with at the time. (Sorry if TMI but it isn't too bad coming up either!) Also, it prevented me from getting dehydrated. You could try lots of ice lollies as I found them useful.

The only other thing that helped me (along with all the other stuff people have suggested) was lemon tea. I drink LIFT the powdered stuff that comes in a jar, and it was a god-send when I could cope with it.

Get lots of rest because it really is true that tiredness makes it worse I'm afraid!

PLP xx

Hi there all. I'm 6+4 and i haven't had it yet so no advice, but will earmark this thread so i can read it when sickness does come along.
Have read that you should have dry toast or ginger nut biscuits before you get out of bed but i get up an hour before my DH so no luck there getting any.

Cyee · 06/05/2007 13:49

Haven't read all the posts so sorry if I'm repeating.

I had MS from about 7 weeks, easing from 14 weeks. Things I found helpful, depending on the day!:

  • Sour sweets, like Haribo, cola bottles etc
  • Yops, milkshakes etc.
  • Having a Horlicks before bedtime.. apparently the milkiness keeps your tum occupied and lessens the sickness in the morning

Eating regularly was also key for me, I took 2 sarnies to work each day and ate them throughout the day. I felt really rough if I let myself get hungry.

Hope you feel better soon, or at least find a few good strategies to manage the sickness.

Cyee · 06/05/2007 13:51

Imawurzel - just keep a pack of biccies by your bedside! That's what I did. As well as having them handy, you will have the added satisfaction of slightly annoying your DH as he sleeps

SydneyB · 06/05/2007 14:02

Not sure how helpful this is but I was sick on and off all the way through although worst over by 20 weeks. Look at this way, you get over the labour really quickly as you're just SO delighted not to feel sick anymore! DD now 5 months and I'm shattered but STILL delighted not to feel sick anymore...
