Hi. I was wondering whether I could get peoples advice please?
I have been prescribed Differin Gel for acne and the leaflet says to not use in pregnancy and to discontinue use if using whilst pregnant. However, I asked my doctor about this and he said that it is okay to use? I think I'm steering clear but I am just confused at the contradicting information.
Thanks x

quite honestly if the medication says dont use then dont use it.

doctors are trained but dont know everything - you should be able to contact the makers of the gel and ask why its not to be used.
(my sister is a biomedical scientist - she gets this a lot by email)

just imho.

Not advising at all here but would it be worth making another appointment to discuss? I use a steroid cream which says do not use. However after speaking to the GPand dermatologist I've been reassured because I am using a lower, infrequent amount and the benefits outweigh any (almost zero) risks. I'd still speak to someone before continuing to use it though!

I would not use it. The makers say don’t which means they’ve not tested it on pregnant women or they have and there was issues

Ask your pharmacist
They will know

It's definately worth discussing with your Dr further. A lot of medications will say not to use them in pregnancy to cover themselves in case anything goes well. You need to be asking what the risks are, how high they are and what the research says so you can make an informed choice. The BUMPS website is useful (best use of medicine in pregnancy) to sunrise the evidence. You could also discuss with your pharmacist as they are the experts when it comes to medications, more so than the Drs.

Your best bet is to discuss with a pharmacist. Drug manufacturers. often write that to cover their back or because not much research has been done, A pharmacist should be able to discuss any potential risk
