Evening ladies,

Apologies, I'm not really sure how else to approach this and I don't wish to cause any upset but I want some advice from people who have actually experienced MC

I have a staff member who was very up and down last week telling me they may/may not be pregnant. Que apparently 3 'inconclusive' tests later, told other staff & me not pregnant. Friday she tells staff she's deffo not preg as come on (just add she has a 6 months old so said it deffo wasn't planned if was)

Anyway, she's come to me today and said she took 2 more tests over weekend and was positive and is now bleeding and MC and asked to go doctors. I obviously said yes no issue. Today she's told other staff she was actually pregnant last week but didn't dare say so so decided to say negative?!

Tonight she's come back to me and said has been doctors who have apparently confirmed was pregnant with twins, 9 weeks (said 3-4 weeks Max originally), has MC one at 3 weeks and is MC other now? I naturally said 'oh have you had a scan then' and she replied oh yes doctors had one in for another patient so just used that. Hasn't been signed off but has asked to be off so naturally agreed.

Something just doesn't add up. Apologies I cannot really comment having not been through and I'm sure all people are different but my sister had one around 10 weeks and said the bleeding/pain was horrendous - actual labour pains, would no chance have been in work acting happy as Larry.

I hate to feel that I'm being lied to especially about such a topic. Does anyone have any experience which says this could well be true?

I think you need to follow your companies official sickness policy rather than asking online for "proof" to back up your almost accusation that someone may be lying.

I don't feel that this particular thread is the place for me to share my experience but all I would say is that every experience of miscarriage is different physically and emotionally, and early pregnancy can be a very uncertain time regarding dates/tests and what's happening.

I've had a couple of losses, and they differed each time.

Two things are fishy, GPs don't have scanners, they are bulky, expensive bits of kit and need specialist train8ng to use.

Loss of a twin at 3 weeks, whilst some twin pregnancies do sadly lose one and continue at 3 weeks you wouldn't know you were pregnant, and it's normally 5+ weeks before anything is visible on a scan (and at that stage it would be an internal scan) so I'm not sure how they could confirm one was lost at 3 weeks.

That's not to say she's lying, she could well have completely misunderstood things when explained, easy to do whilst under that kind of emotional stress of being told you've suffered a loss.

I have no experience of mc but one of our doctors had an ultrasound in his room (he was trained) and he would scan babies, gall stones etc. Just saying that bit's not impossible.

None of us can say whether it's true and you can't know on the information you have at present. I would take it at face value and follow your normal procedures unless something happens to confirm your suspicions.
