When should I tell work?

I'm 7+4, so early days yet, I haven't yet told my workplace.
I work in a school with SEN kids who have behavioural issues. I'm never alone with them though and they're usually fine. Although unpredictable.

I'm also worried about taking time off for scans, midwife appointment etc and what if I'm ill and they don't know I'm pregnant or if I miscarry (hope not) and can't come into work for a week? As you can see I worry a lot and think of all the scenarios. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I told a couple of trusted colleagues, with the idea that if the worst did happen and I had to go off sick for a while, I could rely on them to explain things sensitively to the rest of the team in my absence.

I told my manager at 11 weeks, as I had to ask for time off for booking in and my scan. Turns out she’d guessed a long time before that anyway!

I worked for five years in a secure mental health ward so I know where you are coming from when I say this.

You ideally have a while yet but imho you are better to tell them now so if they want to do risk assessments and ensure your safety etc is paramount during potential incidents.

CALM training (if you are restraining trained) is a nono in pregnancy.

Our policy was tell immediately as we had very violent residents who body packed weapons etc - also a few who were under sections etc

I told my work around 6/7 weeks as I got HG and I had already self-certified for a week so I had to get a sick note to get signed off so I had no choice. Otherwise I would have wanted to wait until after the 12 week scan as I wouldn't have wanted them to know if anything had gone wrong and I didn't want people talking about when I felt it was such early days. But I was forced to. I told my line manager who had to tell his line manager and also HR but I got them not to tell any of my colleagues. I ended up signed off until I was about 16/17 weeks in the end so I told my colleagues when I returned. I work a desk job though so there were no obvious risks to myself like potential violence or manual handling at work etc.
