Physio referral for spd

I contacted my gp a week ago on advice of midwife to request a referral to physio to treat my spd.

I've not heard back yet and wondered how long other people had to wait before they saw someone?

I did leave voicemail for midwife end of last week but they are notoriously slow at getting back as they're so busy so don't want to pester uneccessarily. However I seem to be struggli g more by the day so keen to get this sorted!

It really depends on your area but in my experience physio appointments can take quite a while to come through after referral. If it's getting worse it might be Worthing asking them to make it an urgent referral.

It is notoriously slow, and depending on your area you may not get an individual appointment at first. Here they do a group info session first and then ask women to make follow-up appointments if the self-help measures haven't made a difference.

If you can possibly afford to see a chiropractor privately then that will most likely give you the greatest relief in the shortest possible time.

In my area you get seen quickly if you're pregnant, I got an appointment in about 2 weeks. The usual waiting time is around 3 months.

Is there a self referral system?
My gp gave me a leaflet, I referred myself and told them I was pregnant and was seen a week later!
But I have a friend from a different area and by the time her appointment came through she had given birth 😳

Ours is self referal and I got next day - but always seen within 10 days.

Maybe grab the physio number and inquire.

It took a few weeks for me to get my letter and then the appointment ended up being a few weeks after that.

Oh god that all sounds quite depressing I don't think I can wait another week let alone 3 or more!

Ok thanks all that's helpful, I might try and find the direct number for the physio or just make a private appt to keep me going in the meantime.

Both times I've needed prenatal physio for SPD, I've had my first appointment within 2 weeks. It's a pretty immediate thing in my area at least, as it's not like you can wait 8 months on a list! I'm in Lancashire btw.

After birth though, I've waited months, and also had to chase physio up only to have to be re-referred as I'd mysteriously vanished from the list.

I was referred to a group session by my midwife but its about 3 weeks between referral and appointment. I'd already been suffering for a couple of weeks so couldn't face waiting another 3 so have booked in a private appointment for tonight to get started. Really hoping it helps as walking too much is getting really painful!

Pregnancy yoga really helped me too, the physio said they often recommend it. I only saw the physio once, she showed me how to do the exercises at home. If you definitely know what the issue is, a bit of research will show you what exercises are recommended which you could be doing at home while you wait for the appointment. I know how horrible it is, I was having real difficulty just getting up the stairs.
