Hi,
So I'm just over 36 weeks, this was my first week of maternity leave and u ended up going to hospital on Tuesday for reduced movements, and then on Wednesday again because of hand and ankle swelling.. Both times it turned out everything was fine baby's heartbeat looked good.
They had said at my last scan a couple of weeks ago that they are keeping an eye on placenta and baby growth as think it may be slowing... Having had 2 previous miscarriages I. Will admit to already being pretty anxious throughout this pregnancy.. Scan on Tues (as ctg monitor kept falling off) showed that baby growth seems to have slowed tho baby had still put on some weight since previous one a week earlier just not much.Doctor mentioned that she thinks this baby will be coming early and possible induction at 37 weeks.
Movements have been more frequent again past couple of days until this afternoon when I've had to really focus to feel them and hasn't seemed like as many. I have drank a glass of orange juice and been lying on my side for past half hour and I have felt around 10 movements although they have been relatively small ( week or so a go baby was moving so much my husband and I were laughing as we watched my stomach move)
Im just getting stressed about it all. I just want this baby here safe now. But if I have felt 10 movements albeit small ones in assuming in fine just to keep monitoring them until my scheduled scan on Monday??
Sorry I think I just needed to get it all out there.. My husband thinks I'm over thinking it, although I know he is worrying because I am and it was him who asked me earlier if baby was moving OK.. I don't want to keep worrying him either

Call triage and explain - I think the fact the movements aren’t as strong as you are used to is a fair basis for getting checked out, especially with the growth point that has already been flagged.
They won’t mind seeing you even if all turns out to be completely fine.
Call them now Smile

Any change is worth ringing over, please do get in touch with your department. They'd rather see you / talk to you than you worry.

Smurf123 · 24/02/2018 21:09

I have tried ringing but one line just keeps ringing put and the other constantly says line busy...

I would call the hospital directly and they will put you in touch with maternity who will talk you though everything you need to know If you can't get in touch with your usual midwives. Anytime you are worried, call them. Hope everything is ok.

Sparklesdontshine · 24/02/2018 21:16

Definitely keep phoning till you get through

StripyDeckchair · 24/02/2018 21:25

Any change in your regular pattern of movements needs to be looked into. Counting kicks is no longer recommended- it's all about what's normal for your baby rather than a standard number of movements. I would call the hospital switchboard and ask to be put through to maternity triage. They won't mind. They would much rather you bothered them than worried at home.

Please do keep trying to phone. While lying down, lift your bum up and give your bum a good wiggle, that often gets the wee buggers moving.

fizzytonicplease · 24/02/2018 21:28

Unfortunately the triage line cant always be answered due to staff shortages or how busy the department is. Please just go in youre not wasting anyone's time or being sillt, they would rather get you checked and confirm all is ok .

PragmaticWench · 24/02/2018 21:28

The hospital would rather see you every day for monitoring (and each time find everything is fine) than you not go in because you don't want to waste their time, and something is wrong.

Smurf123 · 24/02/2018 21:48

Thank you all.. I have come over, it is very busy so waiting to be seen..

Best of luck smurf during every pregnancy (3) I had to attend day care every day or every second day for blood pressure, high temp, reduced movement, babies heartbeat etc, I really did feel a pest but You're never being a pest, thats what they are there for, for you and babies well being.

MsJuniper · 24/02/2018 22:46

Hope you're ok @Smurf123

Naughty1205 · 24/02/2018 22:58

Glad you are there. Always always better to get checked out. Hope all well.

Smurf123 · 25/02/2018 09:43

Thank you all for your kind messages. I got home around 2 this morning. All seems well. Baby's started moving more normally once I got to the hospital of course. But the midwifes couldn't have been nicer and were very friendly and did say it was better to come in and check everything was OK.

Well done on getting checked out. I know it can make you feel silly when they kick up a storm once you're there but you're not being silly, you're doing the right thing.
